Preschool Aide or Substitute
Job Description
Summary
To aid the Preschool Teacher with whom they work by helping to direct the children, cleaning up the classroom, and getting prepared for the next day of Preschool. This is a part-time position that offers no medical benefits.
Schedule
Arrive at school no later than 8:30am and complete tasks by 12:00pm or 2 p.m. depending on class schedule. The Preschool runs from Monday to Thursday during the school year but exact days will be dependent on the classroom assignment.
Qualifications
- Educational qualifications require minimum of a High School Diploma.
- Declares a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Agrees with mission and philosophy of Calvary Preschool.
- Agrees with mission and doctrinal statement of Calvary Church.
- Loves children.
- Has the gift of helps.
Relationships
- Accountable to the classroom teacher.
- Accountable to the Director of the Preschool.
- Responsible for the children under their care.
Responsibilities
- Help the teacher set up the room for the morning (may be done at the end of the prior session in preparation for the next class day).
- Be responsible for the snack.
- When it arrives, refrigerate what needs refrigerating.
- Set out items for snack time.
- Return unused snack to parent.
- Assist with cleanup after free play.
- Wash out paint brushes and paint cups in a bucket. No paint (except watercolor) may be washed down the sinks.
- Direct children in cleaning up their toys.
- Get the children and room ready for circle time.
- Wash tables with cleaning solution or sanitizing wipes:
- After free play and before snack time.
- After snack time.
- At the end of the morning.
- Assist with children ...
- During center time:
- Interact with the children.
- Redirect them when necessary.
- Read to the children.
- Assist with art projects.
- With putting on coats and fastening them when going outside or for dismissal.
- In bathroom as necessary.
- With discipline problems while teacher is teaching.
- During center time:
- Assist in the Kiddie gym, gym and on the playground. There should always be two adults with the children.
- Help children and teacher at dismissal time.
- Clean up the room after class:
- Vacuum all carpeted areas.
- Sweep all hard floors.
- Spray all toys and tables with sanitizing spray at the end of each day. Let air dry.
- Take all trash to the large trashcans in each hallway and place a clean liner in the classroom trashcans.
- Check to see that the room is clean and tidy before leaving. If you finish before 12:00, ask what else you may do to help (hang artwork on the walls, prepare items for the next day, etc.). If there is nothing else needed, you may clock out.
Physical and Mental Requirements
Light physical work requirements (lifting 10-20 lbs.), sitting, prolonged standing, potential reaching, climbing, prolonged positioning under hot bright lights, and occasionally outside in differing weather conditions.
