UW Medical Center-Montlake - Bone and Joint Center has an outstanding opportunity for an Orthopaedic Technician II.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Full-time, 100% FTE (40 hours per week)
  • Day Shift

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

Located in the Seattle’s University District, The Bone and Joint Center at UW Medical Center – Roosevelt provides comprehensive orthopedic and musculoskeletal care with an emphasis on returning patients to normal life activities.

We perform total joint replacements—both primary and revision—as well as corrective osteotomies. Our services and care include: minimally invasive replacement surgery; management of osteoporosis and osteoarthritis; management of complex total joint problems, such as revision, infection and fracture; developmental hip dysplasia; knee arthroscopy; surgical management of hip impingement; realignment of knee structure; and meniscus tears.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist physician with complex casting, arthroscopic procedures, pin replacement/removal, and external fixator removal
  • Monitor patient's condition following casting; recognize emergent/urgent problems and provide telephone triage for patients with cast problems
  • Prepare and clean exam rooms
  • Order Durable Medical Supplies (DME) and maintain inventory and stock per established clinic protocols
  • Recognize symptoms of common medical illnesses and accurately report to provider
  • Act as a liaison between patient, patient’s family and providers
  • Assist provider with procedures and medical exams
  • Ensure a signed physician order is completed before submitting the patient for an x-ray, remove and apply casts and/or splints, remove sutures as per established clinic orders
  • Assist in transporting patients as required


 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or achieve this designation during the probationary period

OR

  • ​ Eligible for Washington State Medical Assistant-Registered credential; attestation must be completed by the applicable provider and submitted by the employee to the state within 7 days of hire. Licensure is not transferable between UW clinics/departments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of Orthopaedic Technologist Certified (OTC) Certification program accredited by the National Board for Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists, Inc. (NBCOT) or the Registered Orthopedic Technologist Program accredited by the American Society of Orthopedic Professional (ASOP) and one year of direct patient care experience.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
