Staff Product Manager
Job Description
Role Summary
As Staff Product Manager, you'll own the product strategy and roadmap for critical application capabilities that power our flagship products. This is a senior individual contributor role where you'll drive shared services like authentication, notifications, workflow engines, and user management systems that enable our product teams to deliver exceptional experiences without reinventing foundational capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and execute product strategy for enabling services, ensuring our shared application capabilities evolve to meet the diverse needs of multiple product teams
- Lead cross-functional collaboration with your dedicated engineering squad to deliver robust, reusable services that accelerate product development
- Partner with Principal Product Managers to understand flagship product requirements and translate them into scalable enabling service capabilities
- Define service boundaries and interfaces, ensuring enabling services are intuitive to integrate while maintaining appropriate abstraction levels
- Establish service metrics and quality standards, measuring adoption, reliability, and impact on product team velocity
- Drive user experience consistency across products by providing well-designed shared components and services
- Conduct internal discovery with product teams to identify common patterns and opportunities for shared services
- Balance standardization with flexibility, ensuring services meet common needs while allowing product-specific customization
- Create comprehensive documentation and integration guides that enable product teams to quickly adopt and effectively use enabling services
- Stay current with industry patterns for shared services, microservices architecture, and application design to inform service evolution
Required Qualifications
- 6+ years of product management experience with at least 2 years in senior IC roles owning shared services or application platforms
- Demonstrated success building reusable services adopted by multiple teams, with clear impact on development efficiency
- Strong understanding of application architecture, API design, and service-oriented patterns
- Experience balancing competing needs from multiple internal stakeholders while maintaining service coherence
- Track record of driving adoption of shared services through excellent documentation, developer experience, and stakeholder management
- Expertise in defining service boundaries and managing dependencies in complex systems
- Excellent communication skills with ability to build consensus among diverse stakeholders
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; advanced degree a plus
About You
You likely have some or all of the following experiences:
- You've built shared services, application frameworks, or enabling capabilities used by multiple product teams
- You understand the delicate balance between standardization and flexibility in shared services
- You're passionate about reducing duplicate effort and accelerating product development through reusable components
- You have experience with authentication systems, notification services, workflow engines, or similar foundational capabilities
- You've successfully driven adoption of shared services by focusing on developer experience and clear value propositions
- You enjoy the challenge of serving multiple internal customers with sometimes competing needs
- You've contributed to engineering efficiency through tooling, frameworks, or process improvements
We're looking for someone who combines product thinking with a passion for enabling others' success. If you see yourself in most of these points – or if you bring different but equally valuable experiences – we'd love to hear from you.
What Success Looks Like
In 90 days: You've mapped the current enabling services landscape, understood key stakeholder needs, and identified opportunities to reduce duplication or fill gaps in our shared capabilities.
In 6 months: You've improved existing services or launched new capabilities that multiple product teams have adopted, with measurable impact on development velocity and consistency.
In 12 months: You've established a coherent enabling services strategy with high adoption across product teams. Teams actively seek your services rather than building custom solutions, and you're recognized as a key accelerator of product delivery.
Why This Role Matters
This position is critical to our product organization's efficiency and consistency. By building exceptional enabling services, you'll help our product teams focus on customer value rather than rebuilding common capabilities.
Your work will directly impact how quickly we can innovate and how consistently we deliver experiences across our product portfolio. This role offers unique opportunities to influence our entire product ecosystem through thoughtful service design.
If you're passionate about creating leverage through shared services, excited about enabling team productivity, and want to shape how we build products, we want to hear from you.
