
Teacher/ABE Adult Basic Education (Part-Time)
Job Description
Position: ABE Teacher - Adult Learning GED/College Prep Instructor
Work Schedule: Evenings - 1 night per week, 5 hours total including prep (Thursday nights preferred)
Pay: $42.91/hour (BA) or $43.74/hour (MA) based on the teacher labor agreement

Mounds View Adult Basic Education/GED teacher is responsible for a multi-level class of adult learners. The classes are held in the evening and structured as independent study. Instructors will work with students in classes on a one-on-one basis. Position is responsible for instructing a cohort of adult learners in reading, writing, social studies, science, and math.
Qualifications:
- Valid MN K-12 teaching license.
- Strong communication and organizational skills. A history of taking projects from conception to productive execution. The desire and ability to work well in a team environment.
- Adaptability to a team environment, flexibility, and proficiency in multiple teaching models.
- Previous experience working with teens or adult learners in an interactive, results-orientated environment preferred.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods based on students' strengths and weaknesses and prepare students to take the test to earn a high school equivalency credential.
- Ability to be curious, flexible, and function well in a busy environment with high expectations for students and staff.
- Digital literacy skills required, including integration of digital literacy into the student learning experience
Responsibilities:
- Lesson planning and instruction, monitoring student attendance, collaborating with other staff, and integrating technology into learning.
- Students' educational level and skills are assessed before they enter these programs.
- Teachers may conduct additional assessments, monitor student goals, and develop an education plan.
- Teachers must formally evaluate their students periodically to determine their progress.
