Director of Business Intelligence
Job Description
Position Summary
The Director of Business Intelligence is a versatile, senior individual contributor and team leader responsible for turning data into strategic advantage across the organization. This role blends deep analytical capability with financial acumen, structured project management, and executive communication skills. The Director partners directly with senior leadership to develop financial models, track performance against plan, and drive cross-functional initiatives. While a strong technical foundation in data and reporting is essential, the ideal candidate operates with equal fluency in operational settings and the data environment — connecting analytical outputs to business outcomes and organizational priorities.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Analysis
- Develop and maintain financial models supporting revenue forecasting, margin analysis, budget-to-actual variance tracking, and scenario planning.
- Translate financial data into clear executive narratives — including P&L summaries, channel-level performance analysis, and KPI dashboards — for senior leadership review.
- Partner with Finance and Operations to ensure analytical outputs align with company P&L structure, cost allocation methodologies, and reporting cadences.
- Support EBITDA and contribution margin analysis, identifying levers for improvement and quantifying the impact of business decisions.
- Prepare ad hoc financial analyses and investment cases to support strategic planning, vendor negotiations, and new business initiatives.
Analytics & Data
- Mine large datasets to identify patterns, solve complex business problems, and extract actionable insights that inform strategic and operational decisions.
- Analyze and model diverse data sets to uncover trends, forecast outcomes, and support data-driven decision-making across the organization.
- Own end-to-end data integrity — including wrangling, transforming, standardizing, extracting, staging, cleansing, and enriching data — within a Microsoft/Azure environment.
- Build and maintain SQL queries and automate processes; manage complex schema and table joins to ensure reliable, performant data pipelines.
- Integrate data sets via API, ETL, SDK, and SSIS to create a unified, trustworthy data foundation.
- Develop and automate reporting solutions that provide stakeholders with timely, self-service access to key business metrics.
- Build and maintain dashboards and visualizations (Power BI and other tools) to support operational and executive reporting needs.
Leadership & Communication
- Communicate effectively with senior leadership, translating technical findings and financial analyses into business-relevant recommendations and executive-ready materials.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to understand business requirements and ensure the outputs align with organizational priorities.
- Maintain a continuous improvement mindset — identify and prioritize opportunities to streamline reporting processes, reduce manual effort, and scale analytical capabilities.
- Facilitate structured workstreams across business and technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment and accountability throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Competencies

Communication & Storytelling
Translates complex data and financial concepts into clear, compelling narratives for both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership.

Focuses analytical efforts on the highest-impact business questions; delivers work that directly informs decisions and drives measurable outcomes.
