Overview The Head of Data Governance and Data Quality will be responsible for establishing, leading, and maintaining the UK businesses data governance framework and ensuring the highest standards of data quality across all business functions. This role will drive strategic initiatives to enhance data integrity, compliance, and usability, enabling the business to make informed decisions and maximise the value of its data assets. This role will report to our UK Chief Data Officer to support the data strategy and work with the global Enterprise Management team to leverage and establish the data governance capabilities for Gallagher UK. We offer flexible hybrid working and a requirement for this role is to be based from our London Headquarters 2-3 days per week. How you'll make an impact Strategic Leadership Define and execute a long-term vision for data governance and quality that supports business growth, innovation, and compliance. Develop and implement a comprehensive data governance program to ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance; establish data governance strategies, policies, and frameworks aligned with organisational goals and industry best practices. Act as the senior authority on data governance, advising senior leadership on risks, opportunities, and investments related to data. To have the ability to articulate roadmaps, functionality, and clear organisational benefits of the data governance strategy implementation, as supported by data and KPIs. Build and lead a high-performing team of data governance professionals, fostering continuous improvement and professional development. Represent GGB UK as a Data Governance and Quality leader at global forums and committees to ensure support and alignment with Enterprise Data Management’s data governance and data quality priorities. Data Governance Framework Establish and maintain enterprise-wide and UK relevant policies, standards, and procedures for data management, ensuring consistency across all business divisions of Gallagher UK. Create a clear operating model for data ownership, stewardship, and accountability, assigning roles and responsibilities across the organisation. Establish data governance committees to oversee prioritisation, decision-making and resolution of data usage conflicts. Participate in data governance committees and provide expertise and guidance on data governance initiatives. Collaborate with data stewards, data owners, and data consumers to establish best practices, processes, and procedures in support of our data governance program. As part of our metadata strategy support the development business glossaries and data dictionaries for Gallagher UK, including the adoption of data cataloguing and lineage tools. This should support the usability and reusability of data assets whilst supporting privacy, security, regulatory, legal, and audit initiatives. Identify and lead teams to perform root cause analysis of data governance and data quality issues; make remediation business cases and improvement plans; work with business and technology teams to implement data governance tools and technologies. Develop and oversee data quality programs, including monitoring, reporting, and remediation processes. Introduce automated tools and methodologies to proactively detect, measure, and correct data issues such as duplication, inconsistency, and incompleteness. Partner with IT, analytics, and business teams to embed data quality checks into workflows, systems, and reporting pipelines. Measure the adoption of data governance policies and business value of data quality improvement; conduct data quality assessments and implement measures to improve data accuracy, completeness, and consistency for business-critical data. Data Quality Management Develop and oversee data quality programs, including monitoring, reporting, and remediation processes. Introduce automated tools and methodologies to proactively detect, measure, and correct data issues such as duplication, inconsistency, and incompleteness. Partner with IT, analytics, and business teams to embed data quality checks into workflows, systems, and reporting pipelines. Measure the adoption of data governance policies and business value of data quality improvement; conduct data quality assessments and implement measures to improve data accuracy, completeness, and consistency for business-critical data. Stakeholder Engagement Collaborate with cross-functional teams and leadership to define data governance objectives and priorities; lead the syndication and implementation of data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures. Deliver training, workshops, and communication campaigns to raise awareness of data governance principles and best practices. Influence senior leaders to adopt a “data as an asset” mindset, embedding governance into strategic decision-making. Contribute to the development and implementation of data governance strategies and roadmaps in the divisions. About You Proven track record in data governance, data management, or data quality leadership roles in large-scale, complex organisations Extensive knowledge of data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM). Experience with data governance and quality tools and platforms (e.g., Informatica, Collibra, Talend, CluedIn). Literate in data stack technologies (SnowFlake, Microsoft Azure, DevOps, PowerBI, SQL etc) Deep understanding of data protection regulations and compliance requirements. Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills. Fantastic analytical and problem-solving abilities. Experienced in agile methodology (Scrum) Ability to influence and drive change across complex organizations. Strategic thinker with a pragmatic approach to execution. Collaborative leader who can inspire cross-functional teams. Professional certifications in Data Governance or Data Management (e.g., CDMP, DCAM) are highly desirable.
