We're looking for a hands-on Network Engineer to join our Field Operations team based in the Western Sydney area, where you'll play a critical role in keeping Australia's network infrastructure running. From service delivery and fault restoration to routine maintenance and facility management, you'll be the last line of defence for our customers β and a key contributor to a team that takes pride in getting things done right.
What You'll Do
- Perform service delivery, assurance, and preventative and corrective maintenance across switching, transmission, and enhanced service platforms at exchange, CEV, FAN, hub, mobile, and customer sites.
- Provide first-in technical facility support for critical infrastructure including UPS, DC power plant, HVAC, emergency generators, fire systems, and building management systems.
- Respond rapidly to critical network incidents, working to restore services within SLA across consumer and enterprise customers.
- Monitor and manage exchange and data centre environments, overseeing vendor and contractor activity to ensure compliance with Optus standards, safety requirements, and site cleanliness.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by refining operation manuals, work instructions, and methods of procedure, and supporting the development of new field engineers and cadets.
- Provide ad hoc remote support to contractors and vendors, and assist with deploying and recovering portable generators and SatCat equipment during disaster response.
What makes you perfect for the role?
- Comfortable working in a 24/7 operational environment, including shift work, on-call, and recall arrangements.
- A technical qualification (Cert III, Cert IV, diploma, or degree) in Telecommunications Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience β ideally with years in fixed transmission networks.
- Solid understanding of transmission and digital systems, switching, HFC, mobile (including 5G/edge technology), and consumer products.
- Demonstrated experience with critical infrastructure such as DC systems, rectifiers, UPS, PDUs, HVAC, chillers, fire panels, and grounding systems, with the ability to provide Tier 2 troubleshooting support.
- Practical experience working in exchanges or data centres, including managing HVAC and power systems.
- Ability to collaborate across teams on projects, MOPs, rack layout diagrams, and floor plans, with working knowledge of tools such as Office 365, ServiceNow, and Tableau.
