What You Will Do:
We are looking for an Animal Biologist (Small Animal) to provide support in laboratory management and research, with a focus on supporting animal-based studies and maintaining efficient laboratory operations. This position is a full-time role located in Bethesda, MD.
Serve as a dual Laboratory Manager and Research Biologist, supporting lab operations and research activities.
Manage laboratory operations, including onboarding, training, equipment, SOPs, inventories, procurement, reagents, safety, and waste compliance.
Maintain mouse colony operations, including breeding, genotyping, lineage tracking, animal husbandry, and regulatory recordkeeping.
Perform animal research procedures, including behavioral testing, injections, surgical preparation, and routine handling.
Conduct tissue culture, histology, microscopy, sample preparation, and molecular biology techniques such as qPCR, cloning, Western blotting, and immunohistochemistry.
Analyze experimental data, maintain laboratory records and databases, and prepare figures, summaries, publications, protocols, and presentations.
Optimize and troubleshoot experimental procedures in collaboration with research staff.
What You Will Need:
Bachelor’s Degree
A minimum of TWO (2) years of relevant laboratory or research experience.
Strong experience in animal research and laboratory management.
Experience with tissue culture, histology, and microscopy techniques.
Proficiency in data management, record-keeping, and analysis.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
Experience with GraphPad Prism (or equivalent) and advanced Excel functions.
Working knowledge of laboratory inventory and colony management systems.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and support laboratory operations independently.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD “public trust”; candidates must receive approved adjudication prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an active public trust or suitability are preferred.
What Would Be Nice To Have:
General laboratory safety certification
Certification in chemical/biological waste management
Familiarity with ELN systems (e.g., LabArchives, Quartzy)
Experience with SharePoint interfaces and laboratory data platforms
Familiarity with microscope software platforms (e.g., ZEN, LAS X, NIS-Elements)
Experience with image analysis tools (ImageJ, FIJI, Imaris, CellProfiler)
Experience with colony management databases (SoftMouse, Transnetyx, FileMaker Pro)
