A Brief Overview
The Emergency Department (ED) Medical Director provides clinical and administrative leadership for emergency services across Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center campuses in West Burlington and Fort Madison and Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality, patient-centered emergency care, optimizing operational performance, and fostering a collaborative, accountable medical staff environment.
What you will do
- Provide leadership and oversight for all ED physicians and advanced practice providers across all campuses
- Work to maintain high standards of clinical quality, patient safety, and regulatory compliance (e.g., CMS, CIHQ etc.) and professionalism within the departments
- Collaborate with hospital leadership on strategic planning, throughput improvement, and patient experience initiatives
- Develop, implement, and monitor clinical protocols, policies, and evidence-based practices
- Lead quality improvement programs, including peer review, performance metrics, and ongoing professional practice evaluation
- Support recruitment, onboarding, mentoring, and retention of ED providers
- Partner with nursing leadership and ancillary departments to ensure efficient and coordinated care delivery
- Participate in hospital committees
- Contribute to system-wide initiatives including integration of services among all three campuses
Qualifications
- MD MD or DO with board certification in Emergency Medicine (ABEM/ABOEM) or equivalent Required
- 4-6 years Emergency medicine clinical experience Required
- 1-3 years Prior leadership experience Preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills
- Demonstrated experience in quality improvement and operational performance management
