Team Global Express NZ is on a clear and evolving sustainability journey. With an established sustainability strategy and decarbonisation roadmap already in place, we’re committed to embedding sustainability into how we operate, make decisions, and deliver for our customers, people, and communities.

We’re now looking for a Sustainability Lead to take ownership of delivery and build momentum behind our ESG priorities across the business.

About the role - Mō te tūranga

Reporting to the Chief People & Sustainability Officer, this role provides end‑to‑end leadership of ESG delivery across a large, operational environment. You’ll translate strategy into practical outcomes, drive progress through influence, and ensure strong governance and reporting.

The scope is broad and complex — this is a hands‑on leadership role where judgement, prioritisation, and stakeholder influence are critical — but the impact is real and highly visible.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead delivery of ESG initiatives aligned to the established strategy, including:
    • operational optimisation (e.g. energy efficiency, fleet utilisation)
    • modal shift (rail and shipping)
    • fleet and owner driver sustainability initiatives
    • social and community programmes
  • Lead ESG governance, data quality, and reporting.
  • Prepare and manage ESG submissions via Pulsora, EcoVadis, and Toitū Envirocare.
  • Act as the organisation’s ESG subject matter expert for leaders, customers, and owners.
  • Influence senior leaders and operational teams to progress sustainability projects and initiatives.
  • Communicate sustainability progress clearly through governance forums, presentations, town halls, and written updates.

This is a senior individual contributor role (no direct reports).

What will you bring? – Ōu Pūkenga?

You’re a credible ESG leader who’s comfortable taking ownership and influencing outcomes across a complex, operational environment. You enjoy turning strategy into practical, real‑world results.

Additionally, you’ll bring:

  • Experience in ESG, sustainability, or corporate responsibility roles.
  • Experience within transport, logistics, or a complex operational industry (highly regarded).
  • Strong ESG governance and reporting capability.
  • Experience with ESG platforms and frameworks such as Pulsora, EcoVadis, Toitū, or similar.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Sound judgement and the ability to prioritise for impact.
