Job Description
A Garageman at Great Lakes Truck Center handles basic shop support, vehicle movement, and facility upkeep in a heavy-duty truck service environment.
Core Responsibilities
- Moving trucks around the yard and service bays
- Assisting technicians by staging vehicles, parts, and tools
- Performing basic maintenance tasks (checking fluids, tire pressure, battery condition)
- Washing and cleaning trucks, shop areas, and equipment
- Keeping the garage, lot, and workspaces organized and safe
- Helping with pickup and delivery of vehicles when needed
Skills & Requirements
- Valid driver’s license- CDL
- Ability to operate heavy-duty trucks safely
- Basic mechanical awareness (not full technician level)
- Physical stamina (lifting, standing, working outdoors in varying weather)
- Attention to safety procedures and shop protocols

Required Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Required Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in vehicle maintenance or a related field.
- Proven experience in diagnosing and repairing a variety of vehicles and equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to work with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, and electrical systems.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections.
- Proficiency in using computer-based diagnostic tools and software.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with team members and customers.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform manual labor and lift heavy objects when necessary.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
