About the Role

The Musical Director interacts with and responds to students, staff, parents/guardians, and community members in ways that demonstrates their alignment and agreement with the district's equity commitments as expressed in  Board Policy 7:12: Ensuring Racial and Educational Equity. 

Essential Role Responsibilities:

  • Create detailed rehearsal plans alongside the director; be prepared and organized daily for rehearsals, with prepared materials
  • Communicate with office staff before rehearsal if there are any materials needed to teach successfully
  • Review the show score, practice and make as many edits, additions, changes before the start of rehearsals
  • Be involved with planning, meeting, and preparing show logistics with the team before rehearsals begins
  • Teach & direct creatively - direct students to sound most successful on their vocal part, storytelling through their selections - include music theory through the show material
  • Effectively modify the keys, song length and harmonies to best feature the talent you are working with. Add harmonies should your cast of students need challenging.  JR shows often eliminate 3 part harmony.
  • Provide musical tracks for students to rehearse with outside of rehearsal - copies and preparation done in advance of rehearsal and uploaded to the Family Google Folder - students should have access to music and tracks
  • Coordinate mics, mic lists and any sound needs prior to tech rehearsals - up to 24 wireless microphones can be assigned
  • Assist with putting microphones on all cast members
  • Accountable for pianos, rehearsal spaces and locking mic room following rehearsals, techs and performances
  • Classroom / Rehearsal management is vital Ensure a well-managed, respectful, professional class/rehearsal space
  • Lead with patience and professionalism at all times
  • Leave time daily to clean and organize work areas - safety and cleanliness are priorities
