
Sr. Associate, Hybrid Project Engineer (Solar&BESS)
Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The primary objective of this role is to strategically enhance the prospects of securing Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for hybrid plants as the company transitions towards more Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (CPPAs). Achieving this will require seamless and comprehensive design integration of solar, wind, and battery technologies, thereby expanding the project pipeline.
The purpose of this role is to strengthen the Project Engineering team’s expertise and capability to develop, design, execute, all projects involving batteries – whether it’s standalone BESS or hybrid PV and/or wind BESS plants – as well as PV solar projects. Additionally, the role aims to extensively expand technical capabilities within the existing team by sharing battery knowledge, modelling and simulation expertise, and detailed design expertise to deliver comprehensive technical solutions for projects.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Manage the technical integration of plant design, component selection, and sizing parameters. Design BESS, PV, and hybrid systems (BESS + PV or BESS + Wind), including OEM selection and conducting performance modeling/simulations.
2. Optimise design to suit the project purpose through the consideration of BESS degradation and augmentation schemes
3. Utilize software (e.g. ETAP, HOMER, PVSyst) for battery and hybrid systems to model the effectiveness of the system and checking for deficiencies
4. Understand the technicalities of integrating bi-directional inverters, AC systems, DC/DC converters into battery system design for stand-alone and hybrid applications.
5. Understand and adhere to relevant standards (e.g. IEC 62933, UL9540A, NFPA 855, UL 1973, IEC 62619) and ensure technical compliance of energy storage solutions
6. Develop comprehensive energy storage solutions, encompassing battery technology, PCS, BMS, EMS, SCADA, and hybrid systems (BESS + PV or BESS + Wind).
7. Manage the technical tendering process for battery and hybrid system under development in various markets. Prepare Expression of Interest documents and Request for Quotation documents for project tender
8. Manage technical documentation flow between suppliers and contractors
9. Manage technical information with Technical Advisors to complete project feasibility, detailed engineering review, and construction finance due diligence
10. Support battery and solar construction and commissioning by contractors for projects in Japan
11. Support the development of a Centre of Excellence for Energy Storage. Participate regularly in conferences and industry networks to scout for new ideas and innovations. Present technical information to external and internal teams on energy storage systems and solutions

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

Education and Qualifications
Electrical Engineering Degree or other related discipline focusing on Battery/Solar technology
Work Experience
Battery related Industry experience of more than 3 years in industrial BESS integrator, inverter OEM, or EPC.
Technical / Professional Skills
Technical knowledge of BESS system design, industry standards, installation, and commissioning best practices
Ability to support the review and negotiation of Supply Agreements, Service Agreements,
AutoCAD skills + drawing competency with ability to interpret and modify electrical and construction drawings

Japanese
Established network within the industry with BESS related suppliers and contractors
