Pay Range: $10 per hour
The Member Service Staff is responsible for welcoming members and guests into the facility, for answering and transferring calls, inputting information into the computer, and for communicating policy and program information to visitors at the desk. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Greater Montgomery is responsible for upholding the Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the four pillars of character - caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Greet members (by name) and visitors in a positive and professional manner as a representative of the YMCA; ensures the security of the facility enforcing policy regarding visitors
2. Handle and solve member concerns
3. Answer the telephone in a prompt, courteous manner – three ring rule applies
4. No one left “on hold” for more than 30 seconds without personal contact
5. Provide all needed information on phone messages taken and give correct information to callers
6. Member sign-up and program registration all done correctly and in a timely manner
7. Enter receipt information correctly for membership and programs
8. Be accountable for all money collected during your shift. Money and receipt total should match
9. Perform routine filing and copying as needed
10. Perform facility access control duties by scanning member’s cards and entering visitors in the computer program.
11. Maintain clean and professional appearance for self and facility. Wear staff shirt. Wear nametag. (shorts and skirts of moderate length, no blue jeans)
12. Understand and be able to apply emergency procedures
13. Open and/or secure building at the close of business as necessary.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be at least 18 years old. Must be multi-task oriented. Basic use and knowledge of computers. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Certain bilingual staff may be need to serve as a liaison with population segments.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current CPR/AED certification or must certify within 30 days of employment
Must complete YMCA Safety Trainings within 14 days of employment
