The Fraunhofer Institute for Communication, Information Processing and Ergonomics FKIE researches new, innovative, and intelligent command and information systems. In doing so, we offer our approximately 630 employees challenging and diverse tasks with responsibility and creative freedom.
The “Communication Systems” (KOM) department develops complex hardware and software systems for the efficient use, reconnaissance, and disruption of communication systems. Based on a profound understanding of the requirements of real-world operational scenarios, concepts, methods, and functional prototypes are created and, together with national and international partners, developed into practical solutions.

At our site in Bonn, we are looking for a Research Scientist in the field of Mobile Networks & Network Security at the earliest possible date.

You contribute to the research, development, and evaluation of concepts and protocols for communication systems, particularly in the areas of mobile networks and network security.

In research and test environments, you make targeted use of modern virtualization and automation infrastructures.

Through your active participation, you contribute to international committees and help shape their work.

In national and international projects, you apply your technical expertise and drive their conceptual development forward.

You prepare reports and proposals and ensure structured documentation of project results.

You present your scientific publications at relevant conferences.
What you contribute
- Successfully completed academic degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a comparable field, ideally with a focus on networks or communication systems
- Solid knowledge in data acquisition and analysis
- Programming experience (e.g., in Python or Golang) as well as a willingness to familiarize yourself with new tools and programming languages
- Willingness to undertake national and international business travel, particularly within Europe
- In addition, you impress with your enthusiasm for technology and research, your initiative, and your ability to work independently in a scientific context, complemented by very good written and spoken German and English skills.
What we offer
The position is initially limited to a period of 2 years. The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
