
Histotechnician I - Surgical Pathology - ARZ
Job Description
The individual will contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients by accurately processing surgical pathology specimens.
Responsibilities may include receiving and triaging surgical specimens for intraoperative consultation; performing cryotomy and frozen section staining; accessioning; and conducting high-complexity testing such as gross examination and tissue processing of surgical biopsies. Additional duties include equipment maintenance, record retention, staff training, and utilization of the pathology Laboratory Information System (LIS). This role involves the handling of chemicals and reagents, including hazardous waste materials. Other responsibilities may be assigned.
The position may require travel between the Scottsdale and Phoenix campuses.
The individual must demonstrate strong communication and troubleshooting skills, along with a working knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan. The ability to assess data in relation to patient status and age-specific considerations is required.

Associate of Science degree from an accredited college/university in histology, biology or having emphasized anatomical, biological, and chemical science; or meet CLIA-88 regulations (42CFR493.1487 through 1491) for high complexity testing and one (1) year histology experience; or successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histology Program.
- Two years as certified HT (ASCP) preferred.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated good judgment when dealing with a variety of procedural and technical issues.
Certification
HT (ASCP) certification is required; or ability to obtain within 18 months of hire is required.
