Job Description

BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for a “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as Senior System Defect Resolution Engineer (9 month contract) as part of the systems engineering competency at our Bascharage, Luxembourg Technical Center.
The PowerDrive Systems business unit is responsible for delivering hybrid and full electric vehicle solutions to customers. The Senior System Defect Resolution Engineer is a recognized technical expert responsible for troubleshooting and resolving complex issues in power electronic inverter systems. This role ensures system-level robustness and contributes to technical excellence across projects. It carries significant responsibility for returned-part analysis, root cause identification of defects, technical decision-making, and cross-functional coordination of mitigation actions, including direct customer interaction.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform return-part analysis and identify root causes of defects in power electronic inverter systems, ensuring compliance with internal standards and customer requirements.

  • Define system-level concepts and defect-resolution strategies, coordinating cross-functional competencies such as System Test, Hardware, and Software.

  • Define, plan, execute, and critically analyze advanced test cases across Bench, HiL, eDyne, and Vehicle levels to support root cause identification.

  • Participate actively in system design reviews, project technical discussions, and customer meetings.

  • Serve as the technical interface with customers for defect resolution and related technical discussions.

  • Track and report defect status, maintaining records in JIRA and monitoring relevant KPIs.

  • Up to 25% travel required

Expected Qualification and experience

·        Master’s degree in Engineering (Automotive, Electrical, Electronic, or Mechatronics).

·        8+ years of experience in automotive system development, with a strong focus on automotive power electronics.

·        Deep understanding of system-level interactions between hardware, software, and vehicle use cases.

·        Strong hands-on mindset, with the ability to technically lead and influence teams across sites and disciplines.

·        Demonstrated ability to take technical ownership, make sound engineering decisions, and drive topics to closure.

·        Strong customer-facing experience with clear and effective communication skills.

·        Ability to work independently, with strong capabilities in structured and systemic root cause analysis.

·        Structured, analytical working style with a strong focus on quality, robustness, and efficiency.

·        Solid experience in requirements management, including impact analysis.

·        Strong presentation skills, able to clearly convey complex technical information to both technical and management audiences.

·        Collaborative and positive team player, fostering trust and effective cross-functional teamwork.

·        Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; German is an asset.

·        Valid driving license (minimum Category B).

·        Requirements & task management: Polarion, Atlassian JIRA

·        Test and calibration: ETAS INCA, Vector CANape & CANoe

·        Communication & networking: OBD scan tools, CAN bus analysis tools

·        Development & analysis: MathWorks MATLAB & Simulink

·        Strong safety mindset with solid working knowledge of ISO 26262.

Qualified and hands-on experience in high-voltage (HV) safety
