Position Summary

 

Under the general supervision of the Coordinator, Geospatial Solutions Branch, this position is responsible for maintaining, updating, and supporting Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) data, processes, and technologies that support Infrastructure Records and Mapping Services. The role performs spatial data management, mapping production, quality control, and basic geospatial analysis to support City operations, external agencies, consultants, and the public while ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and compliance with established standards.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support data management activities by performing routine data entry, validation, and updates under guidance from senior staff. Assist in maintaining spatial data consistency and accuracy in accordance with established standards
  • Participate in quality control tasks by applying predefined validation checks and reporting any data discrepancies to senior technicians or supervisors
  • Develop foundational knowledge of geospatial tools and technologies, and actively apply feedback to improve skills in data handling, map production, and spatial analysis
  • Undertakes design projects, provides services and expertise for mapping, drawings for a range of users
  • Contribute to team learning by asking questions, sharing findings, and engaging in informal knowledge exchange with peers and senior staff.
  • Follow established standard operating procedures (SOPs) for CAD/GIS workflows and contribute to documentation updates when needed.
  • Assist with basic geospatial analysis and map creation to support operational needs, such as generating standard maps, performing attribute queries, or supporting thematic mapping tasks.
  • Create visual outputs and mapping products using templates or under supervision, ensuring they meet the needs of internal teams or external clients.
  • Stay informed on new tools and techniques relevant to geospatial work by attending internal training and participating in team knowledge sessions.
  • Responds to requests for information or materials from public, internal branches, and external agencies and consultants
  • Follow all rules and regulations as set out in the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina Occupational Health and Safety Manual

Key Qualifications

Education

  • Two-year diploma in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Geomatics, or a related discipline.
  • Eligibility for registration with the Saskatchewan Applied Science Technologists and Technicians (SASTT) is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience using GIS and/or CAD software.
  • Municipal engineering infrastructure experience is preferred.

Technical Knowledge

  • GIS and CAD principles, practices, and technologies.
  • Spatial data management and mapping standards.
  • Microsoft Office and related business software.
  • Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
  • Municipal infrastructure records and mapping practices.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to maintain and edit digital spatial information to organizational standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and technical information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.

Working/Other Conditions

 

  • Primarily works in an office environment with occasional visits to field and construction sites.
  • Performs computer-based work requiring prolonged sitting, visual focus, and attention to detail.
  • Uses GIS, CAD, and other technology tools extensively throughout the workday.
  • Manages multiple priorities and deadlines while responding to interruptions and changing demands.
  • Regularly collaborates with internal and external stakeholders and provides technical information and support.
  • Must comply with all Occupational Health and Safety requirements and safe work practices.
