SUMMARY:
The Engineer II – Test is responsible for verification and validation activities supporting aerospace, defense, industrial, and naval fluid control products. This position supports all phases of product development from concept and prototype through qualification, acceptance, and production testing. The Engineer II – Test operates within a cross-functional engineering environment and is responsible for developing test strategies, procedures, instrumentation, automated data acquisition systems, and test facilities required to validate product performance, reliability, and compliance with customer and industry requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary duties include:
- Provide engineering support on projects for all aspects of in-house or outside testing as assigned including test stand design, drafting, planning, documentation, quotation, research and analysis.
- Establish and maintain V&V test facilities, instrumentation calibration systems, procedures, processes and equipment.
- Develop test strategies and plans including cost and schedule estimates for assigned projects.
- Create and maintain project- and customer- specific SDRLs including test plans, procedures, work instructions and reports.
- Create and maintain test stand schematics.
- Provide status and estimates-to-complete for assigned tasks on demand.
- Provide engineering oversight and technical supervision of internal and external testing activities including vibration, shock, thermal, and other environmental testing
- Research, select, design, procure, assemble, checkout, operate, document and maintain test stands, facilities, setups, fixtures, tools, software and instrumentation.
- Operate/program a variety of computer-automated and manual test equipment including Data Acquisition systems, control systems and sensors.
- Ensure V&V department conforms to all safety, environmental and other VACCO and/or RBC policies.
- Regularly interface with the Manufacturing Test Group providing technical assistance as needed.
- Lead complex verification and validation efforts with minimal supervision
- Provide technical guidance to technicians
- Coordinate directly with customers and program teams regarding test readiness, anomalies, and data reviews
- Lead troubleshooting and root cause investigating during development and qualification testing
QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate must meet the following criteria:
- Experience / knowledge with production test equipment (e.g., Automatic Test Equipment, thermal chambers, and vibration tables) and familiarity of a standard product development and lifecycle process.
- Experience / knowledge with instrumentation integration, sensor calibration, signal conditioning, automated data acquisition systems, data analysis and processing is highly preferred.
- Experience supporting high-pressure and high flow gas and liquid systems is preferred
- Experience in writing automation applications using LabVIEW or similar tools.
- Experience with CAD, MATLAB / Simulink.
- Proven skills working independently and in a team environment.
- Knowledge of verification and validation test processes.
- Experience developing development, qualification, and acceptance test procedures and reports in support of customer and program requirements.
- Ability to comprehend customer component specifications.
- Capability to read and interpret blueprint and schematic drawings.
- Experience with, and understanding of, military, aerospace, and industry specifications.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills both orally and written.
- Proficient in interpreting and analyzing mechanical specifications and data.
- Competence to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
- Working knowledge of MS computer software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Government Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Requires U.S. Citizenship or permanent U.S. residency status.
- Adeptness to establish priorities, organize work, and be held accountable to budget and schedule.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
B.S. Degree in Engineering (B.S.M.E. preferred) from a four-year college or university; a minimum of three (3) years of test engineering or related experience and/or training, preferably in an Aerospace environment; or an equivalent number of years of education.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and customers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts/models, to analyze the behavior of physical components and systems; and be competent to derive and interpret these notations using background knowledge and context to design/troubleshoot VACCO products.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time, walk and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Majority of work is performed in a typical office environment with no major sources of discomfort. Essentially a normal controlled working environment with noise levels within acceptable safety limits and acceptable lighting and temperature conditions.
