The Salvation Army is seeking a dedicated Community Ministry Worker to help grow and enrich our local mission through meaningful engagement, discipleship pathways, and community-focused initiatives.

About the role

As a Community Ministry Worker, you will help connect our Corps with the wider community, welcome newcomers, and support people in their faith journey. You will create and lead opportunities for evangelism, discipleship, and spiritual growth—including programs like Alpha—while coordinating volunteers, contributing to ministry development, and using your own initiative to identify and respond to community needs.

This is a permanent, Part-Time role, offering 25 hours based in Tweed Heads - South Gold Coast Corps. Salary is in accordance with Hay Level 12.

How you will make an impact

  • Foster meaningful connections between Corps members, newcomers, and the local community.
  • Assess community needs and collaborate with leadership to develop programs that encourage evangelism, discipleship, and spiritual growth.
  • Lead and coordinate the ALPHA course and other discipleship initiatives.
  • Be responsible for existing community-based activities, ministries and programs.
  • Develop new ministry and community engagement activities in consultation with the Corps Leadership Team.
  • Build strong relationships with newcomers and establish clear pathways into faith, ministry involvement, and membership.
  • Engage with local organisations, councils, churches, businesses, and not for profits to support current and future mission opportunities.
  • Facilitate worship gatherings, discipleship groups, small groups, and special events.
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteers, developing roles aligned with Corps strategy while promoting wellbeing and recognising their contributions.
  • Provide administrative support by maintaining accurate data, managing financial tasks (invoicing, purchasing, banking, receipting), and creating communications to promote programs and engagement opportunities.

What you will bring

  • Experience in community engagement within a religious or not-for-profit setting.
  • A demonstrated commitment to the Christian faith and the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Ability to offer pastoral care, prayer, and explain the Christian Gospel.
  • Experience developing and delivering community-based programs.
  • Experience managing volunteers or staff.
  • Strong communication skills, including confidence in public speaking and relationship building.
  • NSW Working with Children’s Check (Employee)
  • Drivers License
