A Brief Summary of This Position:

This individual contributor position serves as one of Valmont's senior Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) program leaders and reports to the Vice President of EHS. The Senior Manager – EHS Programs is responsible for the development, implementation, governance, and continuous improvement of enterprise-wide EHS standards, programs, and tools that support Valmont's global EHS strategy and management system. This role partners with Regional EHS Directors, business leaders, and operational teams worldwide to drive consistency, regulatory compliance, risk reduction, and operational excellence across the organization. The position provides technical leadership in key EHS disciplines and leads the design and maintenance of EHS management system elements, including Global EHS Standards, EHS Playbooks, competency development programs, training frameworks, risk assessment methodologies, and performance measurement systems.

Essential Functions:

  • Reports to the Vice President of Environmental, Health & Safety and has no direct or indirect reports.

  • Requires up to 30% domestic and international travel, including overnight stays.

  • Develop and enhance enterprise-wide standards and programs to facilitate regulatory compliance and minimize risk of injuries, illnesses, and environmental impact within an integrated EHS management system.  Topics may include, but are not limited to industrial hygiene, ergonomics, machine safety, lockout/tagout, work from heights, contractor safety, electrical safety, emergency preparedness and response and other key EHS topics

  • Supports enterprise-wide audits, assessments, and management system reviews; assists in identifying trends, systemic gaps, and opportunities for continuous improvement.

  • Leads the design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS training programs, learning pathways, and competency development frameworks.

  • Supports the institutionalization and ongoing enhancement of the Valmont Safety Index (VSI), including performance measures, reporting tools, analytics, and leading indicator processes.

  • Develops and maintains risk assessment methodologies, tools, and processes designed to identify, evaluate, prioritize, and mitigate occupational health and safety risks.

  • Develops and maintains EHS communications, guidance documents, training content, workshops, and best-practice sharing resources that strengthen organizational capability and engagement.

  • Collaborates with business leaders and EHS teams to integrate Lean and Continuous Improvement principles into EHS processes, systems, and programs.

Other Important Details about the Role:

  • Develops and delivers EHS training, workshops, webinars, and best-practice sharing sessions to strengthen organizational capability and drive consistent program execution.

  • Evaluates regulatory changes, emerging risks, and industry best practices and incorporates applicable requirements into Valmont standards, programs, and management system expectations.

  • Collaborates with Regional EHS Directors, Risk Management, Human Resources, Operations, and other functional partners to improve EHS processes and organizational effectiveness.

  • Develops, maintains, and communicates guidance documents, implementation tools, and supporting resources to facilitate effective deployment of EHS standards and programs.

  • Assists with enterprise-level compliance initiatives, management system assessments, and strategic EHS projects as assigned.

  • Participates in the ongoing maintenance of of EHS metrics, scorecards, leading indicators, and executive reporting processes.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline and 8+ years of relevant EHS experience; or Associate degree and 10+ years of relevant EHS experience; or 12+ years of progressive EHS experience in lieu of a degree.

  • Minimum of eight years of progressively increasing responsibility in environmental, health, and safety with demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and sustaining enterprise-wide EHS programs, standards, or management systems.

  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional projects and influencing stakeholders across multiple business units, functions, or geographic locations.

  • Strong knowledge of occupational safety and health regulations, risk management principles, incident investigation methodologies, and management system concepts.

  • Experience developing and delivering EHS training programs, standards, procedures, and technical guidance documents.

  • Experience utilizing enterprise-wide EHS information management systems and data analytics tools.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to diverse audiences.

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related discipline.

  • Professional certification such as CSP, ASP, CIH, CHMM, CSHM, or equivalent international credentials.

  • Experience developing, implementing, or auditing ISO 45001, ISO 14001, or similar management systems.

  • Experience supporting global or multi-site manufacturing operations.

  • Experience implementing or administering enterprise EHS information management systems such as Intelex.

  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more specialized EHS disciplines including industrial hygiene, machine safety, electrical safety, ergonomics, process safety, or risk management.

  • Experience applying Lean, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement methodologies to EHS programs and processes
