About the FCA and team
We regulate financial services firms in the UK, to keep financial markets fair, thriving and effective. By joining us, you’ll play a key part in protecting consumers, driving economic growth, and shaping the future of UK finance services.
SPC oversees firms and individuals (supervision), creates and reviews the rules by which they operate (policy) and identifies and remedies ineffective competition in markets (competition).
Sitting in the Insurance Directorate, the Appointed Representatives department leads the FCA’s work to reduce harm in the AR regime by improving oversight of principal firms and driving stronger conduct standards across the financial services sector.
The selected candidate will be providing support to a blind manager as part of a reasonable adjustment. There are two key aspects in providing this support. These are using FCA systems on behalf of the manager where the manager is unable to do so, reading aloud to the manager some written documents and information daily, and creating/proofing documents. On the days when the manager is in the Stratford office, the selected candidate will be required to be in the office on the same day to provide additional, physical support.
Role responsibilities:
Review the manager’s calendar in advance and request meeting or event materials ahead of time
Proactively plan to set time aside to go through the papers and read aloud to the manager if necessary or re-format and on some occasions, re-type material so it can be accessed by the manager on their laptop
Be prepared to set time aside to complete some administrative tasks with the manager using FCA systems
You will also be tasked with providing administrative support across 2 teams. Responsibilities include:
Taking ownership of information received into the department and storing these correctly, in line with FCA policies
Managing two managers’ diaries, including booking meetings, booking meeting rooms, proactively identifying, and resolving clashes, and ensuring managers have relevant papers and packs for meetings
Managing some ad hoc tasks such as taking minutes at internal and external meetings, sometimes of a confidential nature
Booking and arranging travel for external meetings
Assisting with departmental recruitment, including sending out case studies, arranging interview slots, and preparing candidate packs
Skills required:
Minimum:
Prior experience of working in a role with a support function, or a background of supporting a sighted individual
Experience managing key administrative tasks using Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint

Confidence in engaging with a wide range of internal and external contacts
Skilled organisational, administrative, and time management abilities
