Key Responsibilities
- Execute a rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum and adopt a data-driven approach in assessing students' progress
- Develop and implement engaging learning experiences, provide feedback, and assess students to demonstrate mastery
- Incorporate thoughtful feedback into your daily practice via student reflections, department collaboration, and the state evaluation system
- Exhibit a strong desire to collaborate and continuously grow professionally
- Adhere to departmental and school policies and procedures regarding grading and assessments
- Set and reach ambitious goals and demonstrate ability to thrive in a high-performing school environment
- Adapt effectively to various classroom environments while maintaining a strong, confident, and consistent presence.
Critical Experience and Qualifications
- 3+ years of teaching experience preferred
- Understanding of high school English standards per the Common Core preferred
- Demonstrated experience supporting and accelerating 9th-grade students' reading and writing skills, particularly by addressing skill gaps and helping students develop the literacy foundations necessary for success in a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum.
- Commitment and enthusiasm for working with a high-performing student population focused on implementing best practices related to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA)
- Optimism, resilience, curiosity, and a strong passion for personal growth and student and teacher success
Education
Bachelor's Degree in secondary education with a concentration in English or Bachelor's Degree in English with education certification. Master's Degree preferred.
Certification Requirements
Hold or be eligible for Secondary English Language Arts Teacher certification. Details can be found here.
Salary
Salary will be computed in accordance with the experience and training of the individual selected and in accordance with the salary schedules for employees of The Charter School of Wilmington. Direct deposit of payroll checks is mandatory for state employment, and employees are paid on a lag pay schedule with the first payment made after approximately one month of employment.
Notes
Offers of employment are contingent upon satisfactory results from a criminal background check, Delaware Child Protection Registry check, and tuberculin (TB) test, as well as verification that the individual holds all required licensure and certifications for the position. All requirements must be completed and cleared prior to the employee's start date.
The candidate must demonstrate in the interview process an understanding of how varied student backgrounds and experiences can impact learning, along with the ability to support an inclusive and equitable classroom environment.
