Job Purpose
The Cost Specialist position is a primary contact with the HDMA supplier network to ensure parts are purchased at the best possible cost. This role is responsible for the following job functions and works with the less complex low impact suppliers such as nuts, bolts, clips, fasteners, etc:
- Service Part Cost Negotiation (cost avoidance and cost reduction)
- Supplier visits, contract review, and projects as assigned
- Tooling & Die Maintenance Cost (tools repair reviews/approvals, new tool purchases)
Key Accountabilities
- Negotiate service parts pricing agreements with suppliers
- Manage supplier issues and cost changes on all parts. This includes negotiating costs, finding economical, viable solutions together with suppliers, finding alternative suppliers, etc.
- Supplier visits, projects, and Critical Back Order (CBO) support
- Ensure new model parts have a firm price while targeting SP=MP metrics
- Ensure correct payment to suppliers/ reconcile accounts through Invoice Balancing system
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
Minimum Educational Qualifications: BA/BS Degree (Business or Engineering preferred) or equivalent
Minimum Experience: 1+ years of supply chain experience that ensures a solid understanding of supply base, supplier production environments, supplier costing methods and design changes/engineering standards
Automotive background preferred but not required
Other Job-Specific Skills:
- Negotiation skills
- Financial acumen
- Prioritization and time management skills
- Communication skills
- Technical skills (e.g. drawing interpretation / reading) are helpful but not essential
- Collaboration within HDMA departments to accomplish department
- Knowledge of the automotive industry a plus
Working Conditions
This position is located in the Troy, OH Service Parts Procurement Center (SPPC) office and requires travel to suppliers as the job demands to negotiate pricing or to negotiate for the continued supply of parts.
