Landfill Gas Technician Trainee

Waste Connections is hiring a Gas Technician Trainee to work outdoors while learning valuable skills such as gas system monitoring, basic maintenance, and HDPE pipe fusion. This is an entry-level opportunity where training will be provided to develop the right candidate into a full Gas Technician role.

Schedule
Monday–Friday, 6:30am – 4:30pm (40–50 hours per week)
On-call rotation: once every 5 weeks (weekend coverage required)
Pay
Start @ $21–$22/hr
Bonus Structure
- $1,000 bonus at 6 months
- $1,500 bonus at 1 year
Responsibilities Include:
- Assist with routine inspections of landfill gas collection systems
- Work alongside Lead Landfill Gas Technicians to learn system operations and compliance requirements
- Support monitoring of gas wells and probes using basic equipment under supervision
- Assist with maintenance of pneumatic pumps, including removal and basic inspections
- Help monitor liquid levels in gas wells
- Learn and support HDPE pipe fusion and repair processes
- Maintain safe working conditions and follow all site safety procedures
- Perform general labor and support tasks around the landfill as needed
Position Requirements:
- Willingness to learn and be trained in gas system operations
- Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and positive attitude
- Ability to perform physically demanding work
- Experience with basic hand and power tools preferred, but not required
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Flexibility to perform a variety of tasks
- Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation as training progresses

Ideal Candidates Will Possess:
- Mechanical aptitude or hands-on experience (construction, labor, equipment, etc.)
- Interest in environmental or landfill operations
- Desire to grow into a Gas Technician role
