Job Description

Purchaser

The Purchaser is accountable for executing and managing aspects of the procurement cycle for materials, sub-contracts and services, supporting all projects.

This role will also assist in the identification of current strengths in the organization and support the development of immediate and long-term solutions and process improvements.

This position is based in the Edmonton, AB office.

What You Will Be Working On

Supply Chain Management

  • Assist and support in the development of project plans and activities

  • Prequalify, select and evaluate vendors and sub-contractors.

  • Continue to improve systems, processes and procedures that support estimating and the execution of projects.

  • Develop and/or participate in development of analytics, systems, data management, metrics, reports, and training.

  • Collaborate with all stakeholders (operating groups, corporate group, and finance teams) to prepare and review vendor agreements for terms, price, and acceptability of items to specification.

Purchasing

  • Consult with Project Managers/ Superintendents to determine what goods and services are needed.

  • Provide purchasing support to all levels of Operations including Project Managers and the Estimating team.

  • Support standardization of policies and transaction methods with suppliers, supplier selection and supplier management.

  • Drive purchasing synergies to achieve cost savings.

  • Collaborate on strategies to maximize cost savings and process improvement and regularly report financial analysis to leaders.

Process Support

  • Review all existing policies, procedures and resources, and provide recommendations for improvement as needed;

  • Provide any recommendations to policies and procedures ensuring they are aligned to the strategic goals of the company and consistently and positively reflect the Bird corporate image; and

  • Compile and distribute reporting requirements in multiple formats to a variety of audiences

Vendor Management

  • Identify key contacts and assist in establishing and maintaining vendor relationships; and

  • Monitor proposals, submissions, successes, failures, set up, and participate in debriefing feedback.

What We Are Looking For

  • 5 years’ procurement or related experience, preferably in an industrial construction environment  

  • Proficiency with MS Office as well as experience with Viewpoint and SAP an asset

  • Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation an asset

  • Business and/or Supply Chain Management Degree/ Diploma, and related certification an asset. 

  • Ability to analyze and negotiate purchasing options involving large sums of money

  • Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups

  • Able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities, capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment

  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking skills and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to work from project sites during major project events would be an asset
