Social Media Lead - Metro UK

About the Role
We are looking for a Social Media Lead to join our team and play a key role in growing Metro UK’s social following. This role will play a key role in creating and maintaining high quality video and static content, consistent with the Metro’s tone of voice.
DMG New Media is a new social publisher, built on a network of over 150 million social followers across news, entertainment, sport, and other brands. We are at the forefront of social media and driving massive growth.
This role spans the full creative process - from ideating concepts to producing and publishing high-impact social content. It will also include supporting our commercial creative team with commercial briefs where necessary.
The ideal candidate is highly creative, hands-on with video and static production with an adept understanding of social-first storytelling. They will also possess a deep understanding of social media trends, audience behaviour, and what makes content thrive across platforms.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee the creation and distribution of static content across social channels - designed to engage Gen Z and Millennial audiences.
- Monitor news, trends and online conversations - understanding how to treat them and move them on for social.
- Champion a test-and-learn culture, using platform data, trends, and insights to drive creative decisions and constant innovation.
- Use data and analytics to inform decisions on commissioning of content and best practice guidance. Be ready to share these insights with internal stakeholders from time to time.
- Collaborate closely with production, design, and talent teams to deliver high-quality, on-brand creative assets at scale.
- Help define and elevate the creative identity and visual language of Metro UK, ensuring a consistent and distinctive editorial voice.
- Maintain expert-level knowledge of evolving social media trends, platform algorithms, content performance metrics, and audience behaviour.
- Evolve output and develop new formats as required with the original team.
- Understand legal covenants such as the UK Editors’ Code of Practice, media law, copyright law and editorial guidelines in the UK and globally
Candidate Profile & Essential Skills
- Experience: Proven track record (3+ years preferred) in a Social Media Manager, or Social Lead role within a major media publisher, social platform, or leading digital/creative agency.
- Social Expertise: Deep, hands-on knowledge of TikTok and Instagram Reels (other platforms are a positive) - with a portfolio showcasing high-performing short-form and static content aimed at Gen Z and Millennial audiences.
- Creative & Strategic Thinking: Ability to turn ideas into engaging, editorially led social storytelling that resonates with audiences and strengthens brand positioning.
- Storytelling & Vision: Strong editorial instincts and a passion for news. A visionary storyteller who can craft compelling narratives in quick, social-native formats.
- Collaboration & Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate creative ideas clearly and work effectively across editorial, production, and design teams.
- Software & Creation: Proven ability to edit at speed using Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Photoshop/Canva.
