Job Description

DUTIES:
1. Design, implement, and manage programs such as Quality Assurance, Education, Treatment Planning, Brachytherapy, and Radiation Protection.
2. Participate in specification and selection of radiation treatment and medical physics equipment.
3. Perform acceptance testing, commissioning, and calibration of equipment used for planning and delivery of radiation treatments.
4. Design and implement quality assurance programs related to equipment, dosimetry, and treatment planning.
5. Develop and maintain data bases for treatment planning.
6. Calibrate radiation measurement devices and equipment.
7. Ensure implementation, maintenance of, and adherence to the Radiation Safety program in accordance with federal and provincial government regulations including, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and the Healing Arts Radiation Protection (HARP) Act.
8. Provide technical direction, expertise, and advice to radiation oncologists, radiation dosimetrists (treatment planners), and radiation therapists on appropriate choices of treatment techniques and patient dosimetry.
9. Provide imaging expertise for radiation treatment planning and delivery verification.
10. Maintain proficiency in current medical physics techniques and standards.
11. Initiate and participate in the implementation of new techniques and technologies within the Radiation Program.
12. Provide support for computer systems and information technology networks used within the Radiation Program.
13. Teach medical physics residents, radiation oncology residents, radiation therapist students, new staff and visitors through didactic sessions, seminars and one-on-one interactions.
14. Supervise graduate, undergraduate, summer, and/or co-op students as required.
15. Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
16. Contribute to learner development by providing academic support, mentorship, preceptorship and supervision as required.
17. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
18. Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
19. Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
20. Perform other duties as required.
