Job Requirements

Position Summary

Outpatient Heart and Vascular Center RN: The Registered Nurse, under the direction of the Manager, assists in performance of several minimally invasive interventional and diagnostic cardiovascular procedures in our outpatient catheterization lab to include:

  • Diagnostic imaging to determine if you have a narrowing or blockages of the peripheral vascular system.
  • Interventional procedures to treat vascular conditions. These include:
  1. Atherectomy
  2. Peripheral Angioplasty
  3. Chronic total occlusion (CTO) treatment
  4. Intravascular Imaging
  5. Vein ablations
  6. Stents
  • Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE) to evaluate for structural heart disease, blood clots, changes in heart function, or arrythmias.
  • Cardioversions
  • Implantation or removal of subcutaneous rhythm monitors (Loop Recorders)
     

In this role, the RN will be given extensive training due to the level of expertise required. Census ranges between 6 to 14 cases a day. Training will include Pre/Post procedure care as well intra-procedure care of patients. Individuals who enjoy working in a team-oriented environment with strong communication skills will do well in this exciting and challenging role.

 

Minimum Requirements

 Education

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Associates Degree in Nursing

 Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years cardiac experience

 License/Registration/Certifications 

  • Current license to practice Nursing in the State of South Carolina
  • Certification in Basic Life Support
  • Cardiac Rehab and Outpatient Heart and Vascular Center only: Advanced Cardiac Life Support

 

Preferred Requirements

Preferred Education 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

 Preferred Experience

  • Outpatient Heart and Vascular Center: 2 years of cardiac experience

  • Complies with established policies and procedures
  • Identifies the need to develop or revise policies and procedures pertaining to specialized patient populations and/or unit and hospital-based practices
  • Serves on hospital-based committees
  • Assesses assigned patients' medical history, admitting diagnosis and physician's orders, obtaining nursing history, performing physical assessment, evaluating diagnostic data, and interviewing patient and family to determine patient needs
  • Demonstrates knowledge of professional nursing practice and theory.
  • Assures continuity of care through effective decision making resulting in quality patient care
  • Documents all aspects of patient care by following established charting procedure to show the patient's progress or any change in the patient's condition
  • Consistently follows all regulatory guidelines for the department and hospital.
  • Completes all documentation requirements thoroughly and in a timely manner per hospital requirements
  • Communicates effectively with all members of the care delivery team.
  • Responsible for participating in process improvement projects within the department.
  • Provides excellent customer service and effective communication with both internal and external customers of the department.
  • Serves as a clinical resource within the department.
  • Ensures that appropriate critical path/standard of care/plan of care is identified and collaboratively implemented.
  • Adhere to and practice appropriate infection control policies and procedures.
  • Perform accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.
  • Other Duties as assigned

 

 

Core Job Responsibilities- Outpatient Heart and Vascular Center RN

  • Successful completion of hospital approved arrhythmia course
  • Performs lab draws, EKGs as ordered
  • Remove venous and arterial sheaths and provide post-sheath removal care
  • Provide pre and post procedure education to patients and families
  • Prepare treatment rooms and lab as required
  • Measure and record vital signs and hemodynamics
  • Other Duties as assigned
