The Opportunity

Reporting to the Team Leader, Underwriting and Billing, Personal Insurance, the incumbent will play a key role in utilizing their expertise on complex files and ensuring quality decision-making. If you are passionate about problem solving and service excellence, this opportunity is for you. This intermediate-level role requires strong underwriting and billing expertise to effectively support our operations. The role is ideal for someone looking to leverage their technical expertise to influence the quality of our broker partners while acting as a mentor to internal teams.

What to Expect

  • Analysis and Support
    • Analyze and process complex inquiries and accommodation requests related to underwriting, billing, products, and pricing (via phone and email).
  • Expertise and Advice
    • Act as a subject-matter expert by providing support and guidance on our products and guidelines to brokers, while clearly explaining premium dislocation and the rationale for changes in our risk appetite.
  • Technical Support and Mentoring
    • Acts as an internal point of contact for advice and technical support, specifically to representatives, to guide the decision-making and to address inquiries transferred by other teams.
  • Risk Management
    • Assess intermediate or advanced complex risks and review underwriting and billing exception requests in accordance with guidelines and your authority level.
  • Broker Relationships 
    • Communicate decisions regarding adjustments, exceptions, and pricing to brokerage firms, ensuring that you provide a thorough rationale to facilitate understanding of our decisions.
  • Complex Transactions
    • Handle transactions not available in the broker self-service portal, including but not limited to new business, policy changes, reinstatements, claims alerts, etc.
  • Compliance and Standards 
    • Prepare documented analyses, including clear recommendations and conditions, for cases exceeding your authority level before escalating them.
  • Collaboration with Centre Systems Management (CSM)
    • Work with the CSM team to create and monitor incident tickets, as needed.

 

What You Bring

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in personal insurance (auto and property) or underwriting.
  • University or college diploma or an equivalent work experience.
  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation (completed or in progress) is an asset.
  • Bilingual (French and English), both spoken and written.

 

Technical skills and assets

  • Strong understanding of the Guidewire system is an asset.
  • Deep underwriting knowledge in personal auto and property underwriting and billing.

  • Customer service focused with a positive and helpful attitude.
  • Communication and influence: Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to coach, advise and simplify technical information.
  • Problem-solving: Strong analytical, decision-making, and complex problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and to be highly organized in a fast-paced environment.

 

Salary Range: $51,300—$94,400

 

High degree of proficiency with English required to service customers, both internal to the company and external, across Canada.

Actual salary for the role may vary depending on work location of the successful candidate and other factors including but not limited to, skills, education, experience, working conditions and the local labour market.
