Job Description
The Project Manager I is an entry-level position for a career in Project Management under the direct supervision of Project Manager II or III or a Senior IT Manager. The Project Manager I will typically be responsible for the schedule, deliverable, customer satisfaction, and technical performance of an assigned project. The project or program generally represents temporary structured work effort to deploy/upgrade/ or optimize a business goal. Alternatively, the Project Manager I may act in a supporting role to the Project Manager of a larger program.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
Assists Project Manager and Project Team in Project Planning and Scheduling, with close supervision.
Able to Plan, Execute, Monitor and Control assigned discrete projects or activities to ensure assignments are completed on time and deadlines are met.
With guidance, able to apply best practices in project management to ensure projects: (1) are completed on time and within budget and scope, (2) produce a quality product, and (3) result in customer satisfaction.
Review deliverables for completeness, accuracy, and quality prior to delivery to customer.
Ensure project and product documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.
Maintain project records, prepare status reports, take meeting minutes, and ensure documents are accessible.
Able to maintain positive relationships with customers; both internal and external.
Basic ability to create and give project management review presentations, with oversight.
Exhibits future growth potential in a fast-paced matrix environment
Able to capture and submit change notices to the Change Advisory Board
Ensure contracts, purchase orders and status reports are maintained, as required.
Able to identify potential project risks and elevate to project leadership, able to support the development of mitigation strategies.
Proactively engage in continuous process improvement and promote positive changes within the company.
Education, Experience/Knowledge & License/Certification
Associate’s degree is required. Bachelor’s Degree is preferred, or 5+ years of functional experience may substitute.
Related functional experience is required.
Basic knowledge of project management methods, tools, and techniques, including Agile methodologies.
Proficient in the use of MS Excel, Word, Visio, Outlook, and Project
CAPM®/PMP® or Scrum Master preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
Able to understand the five phases of Project Management and the role of the project manager.
Experience leading a small team within a functional area, or performance in a support or administrative area.
Basic skills in time management, meeting facilitation, and problem-solving.
Ability to clearly communicate ideas verbally and in writing.
Basic ability to negotiate and apply tact and diplomacy with internal/external customers and foreign personnel.
Strong interpersonal / teaming skills
Basic ability to work independently and as a member of a project team.
Travel/Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
Light to moderate lifting may be required.
May require domestic and international travel (25% to 50%) and valid US passport.
