Job Description

Qualifications: 

Required: Possession of, or an ability to earn, a valid certification for Career Education Aircraft Mechanic. 

Temporary Certification can be earned with the following:

  • Bachelor's degree for the subject matter and 4000 hours of DESE-approved, related occupational experience within the last ten (10) years.

    Or

  • Associate degree in an area appropriate for the subject being taught and 5000 hours of DESE-approved related occupational experience within the last ten (10) years.

    Or

  • Verification of at least 6,000 hours related occupational experience within the last ten (10) years.

Desire to work with the next generation of Aircraft Mechanics.

Preferred: Previous teaching experience.

FLSA: Exempt

Salary Schedule: Per Approved Salary Schedule

Direct Report: HTC Director

Terms of Employment: 181 Day (9 month)

Eligible for emergency telework: With Directors approval

Purpose: The Aircraft Mechanics Instructor has the primary responsibility for instructing students in the Aircraft Mechanics-Airframe 2-year program. The instructor will also develop, update, and implement a comprehensive curriculum that prepares students for a career in the aviation industry. The instructor will also assist students, industry partners, and other staff members to facilitate successful internships, placements, and employment.

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Attend work in a regular, reliable, and punctual manner.
  • To "telework" when requested by the District.
  • Works with the program's Advisory Committee and industry partners to maintain current industry standards, ensure the curriculum's relevancy, and incorporate most-current practices from industry.
  • Assists in maintaining any appropriate program certification.
  • Organizes classroom and shop/lab in a manner that is conducive to learning and safety.
  • Prepares for class, implements effective classroom instructional strategies, and maintains a positive classroom environment. Teacher can show written evidence of preparation and instruction when requested.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of attendance, academics, discipline, and communication.
  • Attends all required meetings including, but not limited to, committees, faculty, CTSO, professional development, and others as requested.
  • Participates in "after-school" activities such as: Parent/Teacher conferences, Advisory Meetings, Award Nights, Open Houses, and other events as necessary.
  • Conducts annual CCQI Evaluation/CLNA and submits results to the director. Makes any necessary changes based upon evaluation results.
  • Promotes and assists with Career and Technical Student Organization memberships and participation.
  • Participates in all parts of the district teacher performance evaluation plan.
  • Demonstrates dedication to the profession by participating in all professional development.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of technology and uses it to enhance student learning.
  • Demonstrates basic computer functions including email, calendar, Canvas, and Student Information Services.
  • Abides by all State Statutes, Board Policies, and Building Regulations.

Other Job Functions:

  • Demonstrates dependability by completing all assigned duties and tasks.
  • Takes all reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress, and manner for the work setting.
  • Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality.
  • Meets requirements to maintain Career Education certification.
  • Preforms other duties as required or assigned.

Physical Demands:

Any individual who holds this position must have the ability to transmit information, in both verbal and written English, in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously. They must have the physical ability to lift heavy tools and parts, sit, stoop, bend, lie on their back and work overhead. They must also be able to operate shop equipment while utilizing safety equipment per OSHA and MSHA guidelines. The individual will be required to be on their feet for most of the instructional period to best monitor student work and behaviors in open and enclosed work areas.

Conditions and Environment:

The individual who holds this position will be in a school setting, but will be exposed to rust, grease, and dirt. They will sometimes work outdoors in temperatures below freezing and above 100 degrees. The individual will work in an environment that is noisy and may have smoke and/or petroleum fumes.
