Job Description
Department: Transportation
Reports to: Director of Transportation/Transportation Supervisor
Term: 12 Months
Full Time: 40 hours
Position Summary:
Works in collaboration with the Director of Transportation and other departmental staff to ensure school buses and other District vehicles are maintained in safe operating condition.
Essential Functions:
- Inspects, diagnoses, and makes repairs of mechanical defects on all buses, vans, cars, and trucks in the transportation department.
- Detects, analyzes, and repairs any mechanical problems on all district vehicles.
- Maintains all vehicles in safe operating condition, according to latest safety standards.
- Indicates and identifies the need for appropriate parts for repair.
- Maintains records of time, material, and parts, warranties, and preventive maintenance.
- Performs annual emissions testing and certification inspections as required.
- Coordinates with state officials to perform annual emission and licensing inspections.
- Operates and performs tasks using modern mechanical and electrical testing and maintenance equipment, including but not limited to, oscilloscope, infrared, and computer analyzer.
- Promotes and maintains a high standard of safety and housekeeping methods in all work connected areas.
- Complies with EOA, OSHA, ADOT and DPS inspections and requirements.
- Serves as a bus driver when as required.
- Ensures that all work is completed in accordance with District policy and applicable state and federal laws.
- Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Training and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Minimum of five years mechanical experience in gasoline and diesel engines.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
- Commercial driver's license (valid licensure must be maintained).
- Licensed in R-134a (valid licensure must be maintained).
