A Microbiology Analyst is responsible for performing microbiological testing and analysis on raw materials, in-process samples, finished products, and environmental samples to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards. The role supports laboratory operations within a pharmaceutical setting, while adhering to GMP, GLP, and company procedures.
Key responsibilities will include:
Performance of routine microbiological testing including:
Environmental monitoring
Water testing
Bioburden testing
Sterility testing
Microbial identification
Preparation and maintenance of culture media, reagents, and laboratory equipment.
Conduct sample preparation, incubation, and microbial enumeration.
Record and review laboratory data accurately in accordance with GMP/GLP requirements.
Investigate out-of-specification (OOS) or atypical results.
Maintain laboratory documentation, logbooks, and test records.
Support method validation, verification, and laboratory investigations.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and contamination control procedures.
Perform routine calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Always maintain aseptic techniques and good laboratory practices.
Required Qualifications
Degree or equivalent qualification in:
Microbiology
Genetics
Biological Sciences
Biomedical Science
Biotechnology
Related scientific discipline
Previous laboratory experience preferred.
Knowledge of microbiological techniques and aseptic practices.
Understanding of GMP, GLP, and laboratory compliance standards.
Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
Knowledge of aseptic techniques
Gram staining
Ability to use standard laboratory equipment such as pipettes, balances and safety cabinets
Ability to follow instructions given verbally and in writing
Able to work in tight spaces and carry heavy loads
Flexibility to changed scheduled work to facilitate manufacturing and deliverables
DESIRABLE
Ability to use a light microscope
Familiar with pour plates, spread plates techniques
Familiar with environmental monitoring techniques
Experience in media preparation
Experience in working in a highly regulated environment
