
Wastewater Collections Supervisor
Job Description
Under direction, the purpose of the position is to oversee and supervise the operations, maintenance and repair of theCity’s wastewater collection system, to include gravity and force main systems, storm sewer system, and recovered waterdistribution system. Employees in this classification possess comprehensive understanding of wastewater collectionsystems, and are responsible for proper safety training for all personnel under charge. Position provides supervisory,technical, and administrative guidance to construction, maintenance, and repair personnel under charge.
- Coordinates and controls the field activities essential to the operation, construction, maintenance and general repair of the City’s wastewater collections systems, i.e., gravity and force main, storm sewer, recovered water distribution.
- Plans and organizes TV underground inspection activities, street sweeping, and maintenance and repair of therecovered water and stormwater system.
- Analyzes and evaluates TV inspection reports and videos.
- Coordinates manpower allocation, scheduling and assignments for crews under charge; prioritizes and coordinateswork orders to minimize disruption in collections operations.
- Conducts on-site investigation for accidents or damage reported; investigates customer concerns and complaints.
- Prepares and monitors collections operations budget; orders treatment operations supplies and materials withinscope of financial authority; monitors and justifies costs and/or expenditures for adherence to operating budget.
- Provides on-site training and repairs as needed, to include the operation of any equipment necessary to perform thework.
- Ensures provision of or provides safety instruction or training for personnel under charge, i.e., confined spaceprocedures and regulations; prepares personnel for state certification exams.
- Ensures equipment, machinery, tools, and supplies are properly inventoried, maintained and used at all times;oversees uniform management.
- Reviews and/or prepares various records and reports, i.e., personnel evaluations, monthly operations, safety meetingrecords, technical study, vehicle inspections, confined space entry.
- Compiles payroll data for personnel under charge.
- Inspects new system hook-ups and abandonments; inspects work in progress, modifies or adjusts work methods, crew sizes and related factors to ensure projects are completed in accordance with work orders.
- Ensures adherence to established safety standards/procedures for crews under charge.
- Drives to and from work sites for monitoring and inspection purposes.
- Functions in an on-call capacity for response to emergencies.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Current Wastewater Collection Class "A" Certification.
- Possession of a valid Class "B" Commercial Driver's License with tanker and air brakes endorsements and a driving record that meets or exceeds minimum City driving standards.
- 5 years of progressively skilled and lead experience in underground maintenance and repair of collection systems, to include TV inspection, lift station management, and storm sewer maintenance.
Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbingand balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting,carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involveheavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).
