Job Description
SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES: The Computed Tomography (C. T.) Technologist is a highly skilled professional who uses specialized computerized x-ray equipment to produce cross sectional images of the human anatomy which aid radiologists in diagnosing a wide variety of diseases and disorders.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- The Computed Tomography Technologist must demonstrate an understanding of human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology and medical terminology.
- Responsible for educating and preparing patients for their examinations
- Provide patient care that is essential to the performance of a variety of procedures
- Take patient medical history before an exam
- The Computed Tomography Technologist must maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and exposure techniques.
- Determine and set appropriate technical parameters to accurately demonstrate anatomy and pathology
- Assume responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients
- Supervised by a board-certified radiologist but afforded a great amount of independence and responsibility
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Satisfactory completion of formal Radiologic technology training in an AMA-approved school and ability to meet requirements for registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), C.T. Tech certified required
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The CT Technologist must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions, such as radiation, noise, infectious/communicable diseases, blood and bloodborne diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases and dusts. Frequent exposures to distressed patients, families or visitors. Heavy lifting: up to 100 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to stand, stoop and lift and walk without restrictions.
