Job Description

Job Summary:

The Forester is responsible for leading and managing forest resource inventory and reforestation activities in compliance with regulatory requirements and project commitments. The role oversees end-to-end inventory processes, including field data collection, validation, and reporting, while ensuring accurate documentation and timely submission to support permitting and approvals. The Forester also plans and supervises plantation establishment and management programs, including site assessment, species selection, and coordination with stakeholders such as DENR, GIS teams, and People’s Organizations (POs). This role ensures effective implementation of reforestation initiatives, monitors plantation performance, and maintains strong compliance, safety, and environmental standards across all activities.

Key Responsibilities:

A. Resource Inventory

  • Lead the conduct of resource inventory activities covering forest and agricultural resources

  • Provide technical assistance on inventory methodologies and field strategies, including:, Data gathering (GPS readings, tree mensuration, tagging), Geotagging (waypoints and photo documentation), Tree species identification and verification

  • Facilitate coordination meetings with GIS and field teams for data processing and validation

  • Conduct coordination meetings with the inventory team, including DENR personnel, covering toolbox meetings and regular safety reminders

  • Manage and maintain all physical and electronic inventory records and datasets gathered on-site

  • Ensure timely submission of complete, accurate, and validated data to the GIS team for processing

  • Prepare and submit required reports and documentation, including but not limited to: Inventory sheets / tally sheets (FLAg, NGP, PCA, and other applicable areas, Stand Stock Tables (NGP, FLAg, SAPA, SFLMA, PCA, as applicable, Geotagged photo layouts (NGP, FLAg, SAPA, SFLMA, PCA, among others), Inventory report endorsements, Post‑inspection reports, Other reports necessary for the processing of cutting permits and related regulatory approvals

B. Plantation Establishment and Management

  • Plan, lead, and monitor the implementation of reforestation programs in compliance with DENR regulations, approved plans, and project commitments

  • Identify and assess suitable reforestation sites, including pre‑evaluation of plantation areas, and recommend appropriate species based on site suitability in coordination with regulatory agencies

  • Prepare site evaluation and assessment reports

  • Develop Plantation Work and Financial Plans (WFP), including activity schedules, targets, budgets, methodologies, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  • Assist in identifying, assessing, and engaging qualified People’s Organizations (POs) for plantation establishment and enhancement projects

  • Build and maintain effective coordination and working relationships with partner POs

  • Provide technical guidance and support to POs involved in plantation establishment and reforestation activities

  • Oversee overall plantation establishment and enhancement programs, including: Plantation site inspection and area preparation

    Inspection of PO nurseries, seedling selection, and species suitability assessment, Identification and verification of seedling sources, Supervision of planting activities in accordance with approved SOPs, Monitoring plantation performance, survival rates, and maintenance activities, Provision of technical support to POs as required.

  • Prepare regular activity status and budget monitoring reports

  • Coordinate with Company representatives, DENR, POs, and other stakeholders for scheduling, inspections, and compliance monitoring

  • Ensure proper documentation, record‑keeping, and preparation of accomplishment and compliance reports for submission to DENR

  • Prepare and issue coordination notices to relevant teams and regulatory agencies

  • Provide assistance in the preparation and timely submission of regulatory compliance reports and required documentation

  • Support project teams in meeting all DENR requirements, permits, and related transactions

Pre-requisites:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry (Must be a licensed Forester)

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience as Forester

  • With experience in: Resource inventory, including proper identification of tree species, nursery management, and plantation establishments Community organizing, management and interactions with, People’s Organizations Good in writing technical and progress reports including preparation of technical power point presentations
