Project Overview:
The Project is a greenfield mining, process, material handling and ship loading project with a focus on sustaining production, minimise environmental impacts, strengthen long-term relationships with neighbouring communities and foster local economic development.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will plan, develop, design, coordinate, and review architectural work on large projects with unique requirements. You will prepare discipline estimates and work plans, review and approve design documents, interpret regulations, and assist with performance reporting. Your recommendations for resolving complex issues will help ensure client satisfaction with a project’s architectural aspects.
"This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership".
Major Responsibilities:
- Support the delivery of mining non-process infrastructure (NPI) architectural scope throughout study, FEED, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and closeout phases.
- Review and evaluate contractor submissions such as shop drawings, material submittals, product data, samples, method statements, ITP documentation, and as-built records.
- Provide technical guidance to project teams, EPCM/owner’s teams, contractors, and subcontractors on constructability, compliance, durability, and maintainability for non-process facilities.
- Evaluate and report on the suitability of unconventional materials and techniques and address complex coordination requirements.
- Coordinate architectural interfaces with structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, Plant Design and Piping (PD&P), and fire protection disciplines to ensure integrated NPI delivery.
- Review and respond to RFIs related to non-process facilities, providing practical and technically sound guidance.
- Monitor contractor and subcontractor architectural scope and assist with resolving design issues, interfaces, quality concerns, and execution risks.
- Ensure architectural works comply with statutory regulations, the National Construction Code, relevant Australian Standards, client requirements, and project HSEC obligations.
- Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate detailed phases of architectural work for non-process projects, including preparing original designs, layouts, drawings, and specifications.
- Develop and interpret design criteria and specifications for complex infrastructure, analyse conflicting design requirements, and sketch potential solutions.
- Prepare or assist with cost estimates, quantity take-offs for proposals, forecasts, and change orders.
- Draft correspondence to vendors and clients.
- Evaluate bid submissions and offer recommendations, while planning, coordinating, and preparing equipment and work specifications, material requirements, bid assessments, and recommendations for contract awards.
- Coordinate architectural activities with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, clients, vendors, contractors, construction teams, and other functional groups in assigned areas.
- When assigned, provide guidance to other architectural personnel for specific tasks or project subgroups.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Good knowledge of Australian building practices, regulatory standards, and codes related to architectural discipline.
- Sound understanding and practical application of architectural building design for functionality, especially in industrial projects.
- Strong adaptability and flexibility for a diverse range of projects and tasks in heavy mining resource projects, many in remote locations.
- Proven skills in 2D and 3D CAD platforms with a preference for experience in MicroStation and ProjectWise CAD management as used extensively by Bechtel.
- Skill in Microsoft applications, also in Aconex document management system.
- Ability to provide practical, economical, and functional solutions to buildings and facilities design, specification, and detailing, with ability to work with procurement and estimating in producing scopes of work for pricing and material quantifications.
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team involving other engineering disciplines, with an emphasis on civil and structural interfaces.
- Proven ability to coordinate contractors, subcontractors, consultants/ EPCM teams, and owner’s teams in multidisciplinary project environments.
