Description of Work
Reporting to the Correctional Food Service Manager, this position is located at medium custody male correctional facility in the Food Services Department. Job responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:1. Providing supervision of Correctional Food Service Officers.
2. Providing oversight of offenders performing large-scale food production.
3. Providing supervision of the preparation and service of regular and therapeutic diets for the offender population.
4. Planning, directing and supervising the daily preparation and serving of food to offenders.
5. Providing accurate and timely record keeping.
6. Utilizing computerized food and nutrition systems to prepare and serve daily meals.
7. Conducting employee work appraisals.
8. Working in this position also includes: food preparation, serving, storage, menu planning, menu substitutions, and maintain sanitation requirements.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the Minimum Education and Experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/Management Preferences are not required but applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:
Documented experience in sanitation, preparing menus, managing inventory, and/or other large-scale food service production activities.
Documented supervision of employees and/or offender workers.

Salary Range
$39,244 - $68,679

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week). The selected candidate may be selected to work any shift and will work weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 staff coverage.
About Warren Correctional Institution
Warren Correctional Institution is a mixed custody facility that houses minimum, medium, and close custody offenders. The current capacity of Warren CI is 809 male offenders, with most offenders being housed in medium custody. Offenders at Warren Correctional Institution may work at the Correction Enterprises Janitorial Products Plant, gaining marketable job skills and self-confidence participating in the manufacturing of soap and cleaning products.
Offenders at Warren Correctional Institution may also participate in vocational training and educational courses to earn their HiSet/GED. They may also participate in the At Both Ends of the Leash (ABEL) program, which provides an opportunity for offenders to train service animals for individuals with medical diagnoses or physical disabilities.

Minimum Education and Experience

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND three years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operations, or as a Correctional Officer, OR two years as a Correctional Food Service Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
