Occupational/Physical Therapist Assistant

 

Department: Special Education Job Status: Full Time
FLSA Status: Exempt Reports To: Special Education Director or Assistant Special Education Director
Grade/Level: Pre-K, K-12/Classified Amount of Travel Required: Varies
Job Type: Regular Positions Supervised: None
Work Schedule: 
181-day contract. Hours are typically 7:30-4:00 daily with a 30-minute lunch and two 15-minute breaks. However, the daily schedule may vary depending on the needs of the district.  

 

POSITION SUMMARY
Works under the direction of the Occupational Therapist (OTR) / Physical Therapist (PT) providing educationally related occupational/physical therapy services to students impaired by cognitive, emotional, physical illness or disabilities according to the Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Essential Functions Statement(s)
 Identification, Screening, Evaluation, and Planning
a. Collaborates with other disciplines
b. Screens and produces strategies for students that demonstrate areas of concern.
c. Completes skilled observations.
d. Participates in multi-disciplinary meetings to review progress and develop IEP plan to achieve goals.
 Service Delivery
a. Provides targeted, evidence-based therapeutic intervention.
b. Consults with school-based team.
c. Adapts and modifies environment.
d. Educates student, educational personnel, and family.
e. Monitors and reassesses the effects of intervention.
f. Documents services to ensure accountability of services.
 

Program Administration and Management
a. Prioritizes and schedules work tasks independently.


b. Manages inventory of therapeutic equipment and assessments and project needs for budget planning. 
c. Maintains clinical and administrative records in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines, and district policy.
d. Adheres to federal and state legislation, regulation and policies.

 Professional Growth
a. Participates in continuing education for professional development to ensure best evidence-based practice and meet Arkansas State Board and National Board of Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy certification requirements.
b. Uses professional literature, evidence-based research, and continuing education content to make practice decisions.
 Ethics
a. Uses professional code of ethics and standards of practice to guide ethical decision-making in practice.
b. Report to the proper authorities any cases of suspected child endangerment or abuse.
 Report suspected bullying to building principal or designee as required by Arkansas law and district policies.
 Adhere to all District policies.
 Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal, Special Education Director, Assistant Special Education Director or Supervising OTR/PT.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

 

Education:
Associate's Degree (two year college or technical school) Required, Field of Study: Occupational/Physical Therapy Assistant 

 

 

Experience:
A minimum of two years of experience as an Occupational/Physical Therapist Assistant, preferably in a school system. 

 

 

Computer Skills:Shall be able to demonstrate an acceptable level of proficiency with computers and programs associated with the position.

 

Certifications &
Licenses:
Certification by National Board for Certification as Occupational/Physical Therapy Assistant
Current license by the Arkansas State Medical Board

 

Other Requirements:1. Successful completion of pre-employment background checks.
2. Appropriate personal and professional conduct at all times while around students and other staff members.
3. Must possess valid Arkansas driver's license.
