Job Description

Position Title: Business and Community Engagement Coordinator 

Classification: RSSSA , Range 7 (210); 12-month 

Reports To: Supervisor of College and Career Readiness

Position Goal: The Business & Community Engagement Coordinator connects with students to provide them with information, resources, and assistance to make informed decisions about their post-secondary career plans. This position also focuses on fostering and strengthening partnerships between the High School system and local businesses, organizations, and community members. This role requires a strong understanding of current career trends, excellent interpersonal skills, and a passion for helping students achieve their academic and career goals. 

Qualifications: 

  1. Bachelor's Degree in the area of education, counseling, or a related field. Masters Degree preferred 
  2. Five years experience in education, business, communications, or a related field/industry.

Prerequisite Skills: 

  1. Strong interpersonal and communication abilities to build and maintain diverse partnerships.
  2. Knowledge of and ability to learn and implement college and career software. 
  3. Strong knowledge of career pathways. 
  4. Ability to work with all types of students. 
  5. Ability to develop working, collaborative relationships with post-secondary representatives. 
  6. Experience and expertise in office technologies, such as Google and Microsoft applications. 
  7. Broad computer/data entry skills evidencing ability to learn new technology quickly, as well as superior quality, quantity, and accuracy in work product. 
  8. Ability to multi-task and manage several projects at one time. 
  9. Skilled at creating and maintaining databases. 
  10. Ability to plan and implement workshops and engagement events for students, families and community. 
  11. Ability to communicate appropriately using a variety of platforms. 
  12. Knowledge of local industries and the regional business landscape.
  13. Familiarity with career and technical education programs

Essential Functions: The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties: 

  1. Identify and cultivate relationships with local businesses, industries, and community organizations that support career pathways.
  2. Work closely with administration to ensure partnership opportunities align with curriculum goals and student needs. 
  3. Provide one-on-one counseling to students who intend to pursue a career after graduation, assisting them in exploring and understanding various post-secondary education and career options. 
  4. Serve as a point of contact for Reading High School (RHS) graduates who require support navigating career options. 
  5. Coordinate and oversee career exploration events, job shadowing, and field trips to provide students with practical industry insights.
  6. Oversee internship programs, including placement, ongoing monitoring, and evaluation.
  7. Collaborate with teachers to incorporate real-world applications and industry insights into the curriculum.
  8. Track and report partnership activities, student participation, and program outcomes.
  9. Maintain an up-to-date database of community contacts and engagement activities to facilitate continued collaboration.
  10. Develop promotional materials that highlight academy programs and student achievements for community outreach.
  11. Prepare reports as requested by administration 
  12. Assist with the organization and implementation of informational sessions, workshops, and presentations on post-secondary admissions, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities. 
  13. Assist with the facilitation of career and reality fairs.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned by administration. 

Terms Of Employment: Full-time (12-month) position. Salary and benefits consistent with the District's approved Compensation and Benefits Plan. 

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
