Job Description

Teacher / Coach

Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in assigned sport(s). Contribute to education program as a whole and to growth of students involved in athletics.


Qualifications Profile

  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI) Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
  • Current first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillator (AED) certificate

Education

  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.


Essential Performance Responsibilities
 

  1. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences.
  2. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  3. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  4. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  5. Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  6. Plan and assign work to instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.
  7. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  8. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  9. Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.
  10. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  11. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  12. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  13. Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  14. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  15. Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  16. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  17. Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  18. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  19. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  20. Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport assigned.
  21. Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
  22. Work with other members of school staff to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes.
  23. Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  24. Work with athletic director to schedule competitions and plan season activities including practices, special events, and tournaments.
  25. Coordinate with transportation department for travel arrangements to out-of-town events.
  26. Ensure compliance with all UIL rules.
  27. Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
  28. Accompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports both at-home and on out-of-town trips.
  29. Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.
  30. Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  31. Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.

     

Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
  • Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
  • Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules
  • Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes

Tools/Equipment Used: Athletic equipment, standard office equipment including computer and peripherals, and other instructional equipment; automated external defibrillator (AED); operate school bus
