Position: Mechanic
Supervisor: Shop Supervisor
General Job Description: Knowledgeable of automotive engines, diesel engines, electrical systems, power equipment and related vehicle equipment, use of tools and equipment utilized in the transportation department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for minor and major repairs of all district vehicles.
- Inspects, diagnose, and make necessary repairs on all district vehicles
- Informs the Shop Supervisor about problems within the Transportation Department
- Shall report to the Shop Supervisor misuse or suspected misuse of district property
- Shall maintain an effective working relationship with district employees
- Have a positive attitude and communicate with students, parents, teachers, co-workers and supervisors.
- Shall adhere to approved Board policy and administrative directives.
- Prepare work orders
- Sweep and clean shop area as needed
- Answer telephones and radios as needed and to know daily operation of the Transportation Department and fill in as needed
- Maintain records as needed
- Accept other responsibilities and duties as deemed necessary by supervisor
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Must be able to get Commercial drivers license with in six months of hire.
- Will be required to drive bus and transport students as needed.
- Work with Transportation Supervisor & Asst. Supervisor.
- Become knowledgeable in state and federal requirements for Bus repairs.
Qualifications:
- Have a working knowledge of basic shop operations.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Must have 1-2 years shop experience or 1-2 years of Tech/College training in related field.
- Possess a valid commercial driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Pass pre-employment drug test.
Physical Requirements: Ability to perform the job and access the environment for which you are hired. The following may be required: Sitting, standing, lifting, moving about the room or school, carrying (up to 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds on occasion), reaching, squatting, and kneeling.
Equipment/Technology Handled: Gasoline and Diesel Fuels, Lubricants, Washing Equipment and be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology.
Work Environment: Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision. After hour work may be required.
Terms of Employment: Salary and work calendar established yearly by the district.
