Transportation Mechanic
Greenville ISD
Primary Purpose
Maintain district transportation vehicles in safe operating condition by performing diagnostic, repair, and preventative maintenance services in compliance with Texas Education Agency (TEA), Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid Texas driver's license required; CDL preferred or ability to obtain
- ASE certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines preferred
- Must meet district, TEA, and DOT requirements, including background checks and drug/alcohol testing
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain school buses and district vehicles
- Perform preventative maintenance in accordance with state and federal regulations
- Ensure vehicles meet all safety inspection and operational standards
- Maintain accurate maintenance and inspection records as required by TEA and DPS
- Report safety concerns and major repair needs to supervisor promptly
- Assist with parts inventory and proper use of tools and equipment
Working Conditions
Physical Demands:
- Frequent standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting heavy vehicle components
Environmental Factors:
- Work performed in maintenance shop and outdoors; exposure to noise, fumes, grease, and chemicals
