POSITION: Full-time Speech Language Pathologist- School Share (Medinah/Itasca)

Qualifications:
- SPEECH - LANGUAGE ?????LOGIST
- QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Education with a Special Education major
- and Master's Degree in Speech Pathology which provides a valid Illinois School Service Personnel Certificate/ endorsement
- Bilingual certification a plus (Spanish/Polish)
- REPORTS TO: Building Principals and/or Special Education Coordinators
- WORK CALENDER: Full-Time (185 days) or as per association contract (split 60/40 between districts)
- EVALUATION: : Annually by the Principal/Asst. Principal in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
- POSITION GOAL: Provide excellence in education by identifying, selecting, scheduling and instruction to reduce or eliminate speech and language impediments that interfere with the individual student's ability to derive full benefit from the district's educational program.
The Speech-Language Pathologist shall be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities which include but are not limited to:
- Observe and adhere to all Board of Education policies and regulations, and all administrative rules and procedures (AR)
- Attend Board meetings when necessary to provide supportive materials and information
- Follow all State of Illinois codes relative to the requirements of the Special Education program relative to Speech Pathology
- Communicate the Speech-Language program initiatives and objectives to the Administration, Staff and Community
- Provide in-service education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech improvement.
- Keep through ongoing records for the individual student receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services
- Maintain lists of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and related services.
- Assume primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies
- Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required
- Serve as a resource to school members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
- Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments
- Collaborate with class room teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student's daily activities.
- Provide speech-language screening for pre-school, kindergarten, new to district and private school speech-language services
- Provide mandated Individualized Education Program (IEP) services including: diagnostic assessments and screenings, development of IEP goals and interventions, monitoring of progress toward goals
- Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress toward goals
- Provide screening to identify speech handicapped children at regular intervals and at specified levels.
- Provide a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech and hearing handicapped children.
- Provide a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, and language impairments of all students
- Assist in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
- Provide appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual students' needs and correct existing speech or language handicaps.
- Provide information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
- Exhibit confidentiality in relation to students, parents and faculty
- Develop open, effective and positive communication with parents
- Develop a positive working relationship with administration, staff, students and parents
- Assume responsibility for personal and professional growth and development by attending meetings, workshops, conferences and continuing education classes as related to Speech - Language services and education
- Remain current on effective teaching practices, techniques and learning strategies, literature, new research findings and technology, testing and data collection
- Adhere to the new PERA law and Senate Bill 7 which describes the Illinois Learning Standards and requirements for good teaching
- Be knowledgeable of and adhere to the Districts' Safety Plans
