Job Description
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: July 7, 2026 - August 8, 2026, up to 6 Hours/Day X 20 Days, M-Th
POSITION OVERVIEW: Responsible for student care under the direction of Physical Therapist. Supervises aids in direct student care and related activities as needed.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This description of the position of Physical Therapy Assistant is for identification and administrative purposes only. It is not intended to be a complete statement of all duties, which may be assigned or adjusted by the Superintendent of Schools according to varying needs.
- Provide physical therapy treatments according to the physical therapists' treatment plan.
- Communicate with supervisor and other members interdisciplinary team members regarding student progress, problems, or plans.
- Record daily treatment notes, portions of monthly progress notes, and discharge summaries timely and completely.
- Maintain student records confidentially. 5. Record treatment charges daily in accurate and timely manner.
- Must be able to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocols.
- Maintain work area, exam rooms and supplies.
- Maintain professional appearance and personal conduct.
- Adhere to employer work practices as described in BOE policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
- Current Connecticut State Physical Therapist Assistant License Certification/Licensure.
- One year as a Physical Therapy Assistant or comparable internship.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds unassisted, including assisting patients when required.
- Adequate physical ability including sufficient manual dexterity to perform the requisite health care service.
- Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting, with some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift.
- Available in July for required training
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Thorough knowledge of physical therapy assistant principles and practices.
- Working knowledge of computer programs.
- Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively.
- Must be able to act calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation.
- Ability to communicate effectively in the English language in person, by phone and in writing.
- Bilingual, English and Spanish.
- Requires adherence to all policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety, attendance, punctuality, and personal appearance.
