Job Title: High School Theatre Arts Teacher Wage/Hour Status: Exempt
Reports to: Building Principal Pay Grade: Teacher Salary � 187 Days

Primary Purpose:
To develop in each student an appreciation of theatre arts as part of general culture; to teach techniques of theatrical; to discover and develop the talents of students in the field of theatre; to develop knowledge and skills related to theatrical production.


 
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree.
  • A valid Texas teacher's certificate
     

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Assist the Director of Fine Arts in overseeing the theatrical program among those middle schools which are a part of the feeder system of the high schools.
  2. Plan a program of study in theatre that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of all students enrolled based on the district's educational philosophy, goals, objectives, and individual student plans.
  3. Control the storage and use of school-owned property; provide for adjustments and repairs to equipment as required for optimum use and longevity.
  4. Evaluate each student's theatrical growth and performance individually, as well as assessing his/her contribution to the performance of the group including, but not limited to, the documentation of mastery or essential elements.
  5. Plan and direct students in theatrical performances for schools and in the community and cooperate with district and school administration in providing theatrical programs for school productions, graduation ceremonies, and civic functions.
  6. Select and requisition theatre supplies, equipment, instructional aids, state adopted texts and other needed supplies and materials, and maintain required inventory and maintenance.
  7. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  8. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  9. Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation.
  10. Establish and maintain standards of appropriate student behavior.
  11. Employ a variety of instructional strategies and media which meet the needs and capabilities of the students.
  12. Evaluate student performance on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  13. Refer students with special needs to the appropriate district specialist and participate on committees related to individual student planning.
  14. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, self, equipment, materials, and facilities in order to provide an on going, safe classroom environment.
  15. Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  16. Assist as directed in the daily operations of the school.
  17. Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when needed.
  18. Plan and supervise duties for volunteers when necessary.
  19. Maintain and improve competence through participation in professional training.
  20. Attend all staff meetings and serve on committees as requested.
  21. Directing the musical including overall vision, read through, blocking, character work, running the show and communicating with all other necessary parties. 
  22. Other duties as assigned

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment;

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking

Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 30 pounds)

Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; coordinate district functions. District-wide and statewide travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.

Other: Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures; Other duties as assigned
