Job Description

SUMMARY OF PURPOSE

The Grounds Crew Worker is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the grounds of the school district's properties, ensuring that the facilities are safe, clean, and aesthetically pleasing. This role involves performing a variety of landscaping, groundskeeping, and light maintenance tasks to support the district's mission of providing a conducive environment for students, staff, and visitors.

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or maintenance preferred.
  • Ability to operate and maintain landscaping equipment and tools.
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting heavy objects and working in various weather conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in work quality.
  • Ability to follow High school diploma or equivalent.
  • instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to operate a district vehicle.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends or after-hours, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintain and care for lawns, athletic fields, flowerbeds, trees, shrubs, and other landscaping elements.
  • Mow, trim, and edge lawns and fields on district properties.
  • Water, fertilize, and aerate turf and plants to ensure healthy growth.
  • Remove weeds, debris, and litter from school grounds and surrounding areas.
  • Assist in the setup and maintenance of athletic fields, including marking lines, repairing fences, and managing irrigation systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance on tools and equipment, ensuring that they are in good working condition.
  • Assist with snow removal during winter months, ensuring that walkways and parking lots are clear of ice and snow.
  • Monitor the grounds for any safety hazards, reporting any issues to the Grounds Crew Leader or Facilities Manager.
  • Assist in the planting, pruning, and removal of trees and plants as necessary.
  • Operate a variety of landscaping equipment, including mowers, blowers, trimmers, and tractors.
  • Follow safety protocols and regulations while performing tasks and using equipment.
  • Assist with general maintenance duties, such as repairing fences, gates, or walkways.
  • Safely load, transport, and unload goods, furniture, and other materials to designated locations.
  • Perform custodial work and provide custodial coverage as needed.
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by the Grounds Crew Leader or Facilities Manager.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT 

  • Full time position; 8.0 hours per day, working 248 days per year, following the AFSCME work calendar
  • Compensation and benefits as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Chambersburg Area School District and AFSCME District Council 89 Local 2935

 

EVALUATION

Performance of the Grounds Crew/ Groundskeeper will be evaluated annually by the Grounds Crew Leader in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluations of supplemental employees.
