Job Description
- Provide Shariah advice and clarification to internal stakeholders on Shariah-related matters arising from day-to-day Islamic banking operations
- Review and provide Shariah advice to Business and Support Units on papers, proposals, and submissions to be tabled to the Shariah Committee
- Provide initial Shariah feedback and guidance to Product Managers and relevant UOB bankers on deal structures, Islamic banking products, documentation, operational processes, and marketing materials
- Manage and process Shariah clearances under the Delegated Authority framework as approved by the Shariah Committee
- Manage and process Shariah clearances under the Delegated Authority as delegated by the Shariah Committee
- Support implementation of Shariah Governance Framework and internal Shariah policies
Requirement
- At least five to eight years’ experience in Islamic Banking covering all aspects of the business including Shariah Secretariat management, products, Shariah risk, documentation, processes, procedures, training/lecturing/teaching and structuring, product development/client coverage sales/structuring at an investment bank, capital markets, securities/fund houses, wealth management, asset management, structured products, funds, i-REITs.
- Degree in Shariah or Shariah related discipline such as LLB(Shariah) is mandatory. Additional qualification in Finance or Islamic Banking is advantageous, experience in Banking and Islamic Banking with a good record is required. Maturity, conscientious, responsibility and a calm demeanor is key.
- Shariah Committee administration, Islamic Banking products, product development, operations, corporate banking, consumer banking, capital markets, banking law, Shariah principles, regulatory knowledge, BNM SGF, compliance, communications
- Experience in research houses as an analyst, good writing and communication skills, securities market analysis, financial analysis, product structuring
- A self-starter with strong drive for excellence, ability to work under high pressure, detail oriented and good administrative skills is key. Passion for Islamic Finance. Integrity. Teamwork.
