Job Description
Mathematics Teacher (Grades 5-8)
Summary: Under the general supervision of the School Director, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
Compensation: Base Salary-Certified-$73,500, $2,000 Testing Grade, (Adv. Degrees $3,000 for masters, $5,000 for doctorate). $200/ year for applicable experience.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required. (Master's preferred)
- Valid New York State Teacher Certification in Mathematics (Grades 4-8) or eligibility.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing using proper grammar and vocabulary.
- Proficient in the use of technology including word processing, data management, information retrieval, visual presentations, and telecommunications.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality in compliance with New York State regulations and school policies.
- Knowledge of child development, learning styles, and instructional strategies to meet individual student needs.
- Familiarity with New York State Learning Standards and curriculum frameworks.
- Ability to analyze data to drive instructional decisions and formulate action plans.
- Understanding of applicable federal, state, and local laws related to education and student welfare.
- Capacity to engage in self-evaluation for continuous professional growth.
- Knowledge of effective teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with parents, students, colleagues, and school administrators.

The Mathematics teacher will:
- Develops and administers school middle school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Designs and delivers mathematics instruction in compliance with the iLearn Schools Mission and Vision for Teaching and Learning of Mathematics.
- Equips students not only with mathematics content, but also with the Standards for Mathematical Practice (SMP)[1] to help them succeed in doing and using mathematics across the K-12 curriculum and in their college and career work.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual small group instruction as needed.
- Instructs students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws, as well as administrative regulations and procedures of iLearn Schools, Inc.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Coordinates with other middle school professional staff members, especially within grade level and specific subjects, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
- Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.
- Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the School Director and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Experience: Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
Travel Requirements: Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
